Chiefs Camp: Our View

We like this camp solely because of the location; the game here is very good.  The quality of guiding is also impressive and with a fairly recent, much needed refurb, Chiefs Camp is a great place for safari.  However, the rate of this lodge in the peak season months is pretty high, and overall it does lack in that real safari atmosphere. The view out from the lodge is poor.  In a nutshell Chiefs is the perfect lodge for someone wanting a luxurious, somewhat sanitized safari but it is so finely done we actually find it slightly off putting; a typical Abercrombie and Kent lodge (A&K own Sanctuary) that caters very well for a US focused A&K styled client! However with all that said, Chiefs camp has a cracking price in low season and we actually view it as the best value property in Botswana throughout the low season months!

Chiefs is a lovely camp, although almost too over the top, but its low season rates bring it into a league of its own so it gets 4 paws.

Chiefs Camp: The Detail

Chiefs Camp is located in the heart of the Okavango Delta’s Moremi Game Reserve. Recognised as one of Botswana’s finest camps, Chiefs Camp is accessible via its own private airstrip, approximately 15 minutes drive from camp. The Moremi Game Reserve is one hours flight from Maun, the town which acts as a gateway to the Okavango.

Chiefs Camp looks out over a seasonal floor plain which attracts game throughout the year. The camp consists of 12 super luxurious ‘pavilions’, each with four poster beds, indoor and outdoor showers and en suites. Private decking areas in front of each room offer  guests the cha nce to relax in private overlooking the flood plains.

The twelve luxury tents are located in the North-Western sector of Chief’s Island on the Piajio channel in the private Mombo concession of Moremi Wildlife Reserve. The camp also has a lounge, bar and dining area, a swimming pool and a large viewing deck that looks out onto a seasonal floodplain.

At night the floodplain in front is illuminated and views are stunning.Due to its large concentration of elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion, wild dog and plains game, Chiefs is synonymous with prime game viewing.

Activities consist of game drives in custom-built Land Cruisers and when water levels are high enough, seasonal water safaris. With few roads leading into the camp, guests are assured of an exclusive safari experience.
