STANLEYS CAMP

Okavango Delta

Stanleys Camp: Our View

Overall we love this camp but question the real quality of the safari on offer. Yes the area is beautiful but in our experience the resident game has been somewhat poor. With all that said, the elephant experience is just superb….but for the camps we actually prefer Stanleys to its more expensive sister Baines! Yes the camp is twice the size but it is still not big and seems to house a much more attractive character. The activities on offer at Stanleys are exactly the same as at Baines, with the superb elephant activities with ‘Elephant Guardian’ Douglas Alan Groves a must do! So, in summary, a great camp for 2 nights, not 3….come here for the elephants, go elsewhere for the game!

Stanleys camp gets 3 paws. It is a lovely camp at great value but it is not in a good game area.

Stanleys Camp: The Detail

Set in an amphitheatre of ebony and sausage trees on the southern tip of Chief’s Island, Stanley’s Camp borders the southern section of the Moremi Game Reserve. This private concession is located by definition in seasonal delta. The floodwaters arrive around June, although there is often navigable water all year round due to the presence of the Boro River.

Stanley’s consists of 8 classic styled safari tents raised on wooden decking. The decks are complemented with hammocks and Morris chairs. Each unit offers en-suite facilities, a private deck and is equipped with a hairdryer and ceiling fan. The main building is raised on decking and offers expansive views over the surrounding floodplains. The structure was built into the existing tree line, its main support being a large sausage tree. There is also a swimming pool. Electricity, 240 volts, is supplied by a combination of silent packed generator and battery system allowing 24-hour power supply.

Game drives are usually conducted early morning and late afternoon and seeing as Stanley’s Camp is situated on a private concession, night drives are offered. Walking Safaris explore on foot with skilled, armed professional guides. Explore water safaris at the gentle pace of a poled mokoro (offered most of the year, subject to water levels). The unique and educational elephant interaction is also available.
