Tanzania Family SafarisThe world is changing, and in some ways it is for the better. If you have ever dreamed of safari action and wild African adventures with your children, then there is no time like the present. Where once it was discouraged, positively banned, to bring kids under 8 years old even within sniffing distance of a safari camp, now there are fantastic options for truly memorable, positively wild family holidays.
The best safari for your family depends on a number of factors, including age, ability, diversity and interests. We can find you adjoining tents, walking safaris, adventure hideaways, beach and bush combos and great guides for kids!
Selous is Africa’s largest and oldest game reserve, and one of its most scenic wildlife destinations. With its rivers and lakes, open vistas and green woodlands, Selous is utterly beautiful. The beauty of the reserve is matched by the quality of safaris here; boating safaris, walking and fly camping compliment standard game driving in areas with masses of wildlife action. This is an outrageously good safari park that is an essential destination in any Southern circuit itinerary.
Ruaha is the 'other park' in the Southern circuit and is for those looking for that wilderness and raw Africa experience. The game viewing here is excellent and works on the same seasonal patterns as the Selous – making them great companions. Renown for its large prides of lion and elephant, you can also find cheetah here on the plains and leopard sightimngs are superb. This is wild, raw Africa and is the place to go if you don’t want to see other vehicles! With miles of palm-fringed shores, powder soft coral sands and gin-clear seas, Zanzibar lives up to the Indian Ocean island idyll. The atmosphere is compounded by a colourful Swahili culture where traditional wooden dhows sail beneath billowing lanteen sails on each far horizon. A great location for exploring, diving and snorkelling and with a wide range of accommodation options to suit all budgets
The best places in Tanzania for FamiliesUntil now, Tanzania has not been a first choice for families, but recently we have arranged some truly fantastic family trips. Depending on the age and interests of your children, we would probably recommend heading into one of the lodges in which you could walk, boat and take game drives from the comfort of your lodge. In many cases, an extended driving circuit is inappropriate for younger children, but there are now places in which kids can walk and even get involved with the local community. With this in mind, one of our favourite Tanzania locations for families with younger children is Kisampa Lodge. The lodge sits prettily on the Indian Ocean coast with acres of wildlife behind. In the Selous, families enjoy boat trips and safari excursions that return each day to the swimming pool, and all of these are easy to combine with fabulous beach experiences in Zanzibar .
Best Family ChoicesThe Selous Impala Camp is well regarded as offering excellent value for money and a great overall level of service and guiding. If you cannot stretch the budget to one of the more expensive lodges then this is definitely a good compromise in the Selous.
Baraza is luxurious all inclusive 30 bedroom hotel located on the South East coast of Zanzibar next door its sister hotels, Palms and Breezes. Lovely food with a choice of bars and restaurants to eat in, one of the best spas on the island a great hotel for both the honeymooners and the family. Tent With A View is very close to the Saadani marine park and situated on a beautiful deserted white sand beach in the North of Saadani National Park. |
