AMBOSELI PORINI CAMP

Amboseli

Amboseli Porini Camp: Our View

Similar to its sister camps in the Mara, Amboseli Porini Camp has kept to the basics of safari and is a real find in what is a growingly expensive marketplace. With simple, but clean and tidy tents, all featuring fully flush loos and spacious dressing and sleeping areas, the accommodation is comfortable. The only apparent drawback to the lodge is its location outside the park…but we actually think that this is its main benefit! Outside the park avoids Amboseli's crowds. The game in the concession is actually very good and a stay just here will definitely give you all that you need without needing to join the mêlée going on nearby. Again, a great choice for those on a limited budget.

Porini is a cheaper option than Tortillis and a camp that offers a great option for clients determined to stay away from the crowds. Good value accommodation and overall high levels of guiding for such a good price make Porini worthy of its 4 paw grade.

Amboseli Porini Camp: The Detail

Amboseli Porini Camp lies in the heart of Masailand in the exclusive 15,000 acre community-owned Selenkay Conservancy, well away from the crowds, so that you can experience a classic East African Safari, similar to the bygone days of Ernest Hemingway & Teddy Roosevelt.

Nine spacious tents have been sited among shady Acacia Tortilis trees, in a spot once favored by big game hunters. The tents are large and comfortably furnished, with solar-powered electric lights, and en suite bathrooms with safari shower, washbasin and flush toilet.

Being in a private conservancy comes with the rare advantages of allowing you to experience night game drives, guided walks and sundowners with views of snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro, to get you closer to nature and the beauty of Africa. For those who are wanting to visit the nearby Amboseli National Park to see its famous elephants, the park is not far away and can be easily visited in a day.

Amboseli
Located over to the west of Amboseli NP, Tortilis is located in one of the best areas, away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to have easy access to the park.
Rift Valley Lakes
This is definitely a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the pleasures of Kenyan country life as well as explore the Great Rift Valley. Built in the Second World War it nestles under ancient Acacia trees and lush lawns run down to the shores of Lake Naivasha (the Great Rift Valley’s highest and purest lake). Indigenous plants and flowers fill the gardens.
Lewa Downs
Lewa Wilderness is probably our pick of the lodges in the Lewa Conservancy as it combines a whole spread of both activities and privacy. Each of the cottages is very spacious and gives you the feeling of total privacy while not feeling cut off from the lodge itself. As an actual home, the communal areas feel welcoming and comfortable with the swimming pool area and bar being particular favourites!
