GALDESSA CAMP
Tsavo
Galdessa Camp: Our ViewSituated in the Tsavo East National Park , the camp is spread along the river under doum palms overlooking the Galana River and the Yatta Plateau. The camp has a coastal/bush relaxed feel and is designed to blend with the environment using earthy colours and natural woods throughout. Under the shade of the doum palms, the camp is divided into downstream and upstream camps, which offer two separate entities with private mess and lounges which can also be booked for exclusive use. Galdessa is the best place to stay at Tsavo, quite an old lodge but it still delivers, we rate it 4 paws Galdessa Camp: Fast Facts$470 per person per night (high season)
Galdessa Camp: The DetailThe central buildings house a spacious dining area, a bar, and a large, comfortable lounge. The thatch roof, Galana stone floors, and deep, bed-size sofas give it a charming coastal atmosphere. Accommodation is in 11 comfortable and spacious bandas each of which has en-suite bathrooms, verandas and are situated a good distance apart to provide privacy. Two of the bandas have separate sitting rooms (Banda 4 & 7), and a large veranda on stilts (Banda 7). Bandas 7 is often recommended for honeymooners. The bathrooms are large and have traditional bucket showers, flush toilets and basins with running water. Game drives in open vehicles. Walking safaris along the Galana River and sand rivers. Sundowners, bush breakfast. Rhino Camp (conservation project), 15 minutes from Galdessa. The camp's direct area is a home to over 51 black rhino. Tsavo East National Park is a Wilderness area and the game can be shy but it offers great bio-diversity. Uncommon species seen there include lesser kudu, gerenuk, fringed eared oryx, hirola and Peter's gazelle. The area is renowned for elephants particularly during the dry season; the last count (1999) recorded 8100. Tsavo is particularly rich in birdlife. You may also likeShompole
Since Shompole’s conception, it has really been leading the way in how to organise and successfully run a community lodge. Superbly designed with the elements of nature such as water featuring very prominently in the entire design, the lodge has a wonderfully relaxed and secluded air to it.
Samburu
Shaba National Park is probably one of the least known in Kenya...and long may it remain that way! Joy's was completed in 2007 and is a stunning, semi tented camp set on the fringes of a small lagoon complex.
Lewa Downs
Lewa Wilderness is probably our pick of the lodges in the Lewa Conservancy as it combines a whole spread of both activities and privacy. Each of the cottages is very spacious and gives you the feeling of total privacy while not feeling cut off from the lodge itself. As an actual home, the communal areas feel welcoming and comfortable with the swimming pool area and bar being particular favourites!
