Hemmingways: Our ViewThis hotel is a very good choice for those with a family or couples who like to be active while on holiday. Being relatively small compared to the goliaths around Mombasa, this hotel has really cornered the resort style hotel market and is also a must visit spot for the big game fishermen between August and April. All in all, it may not be quite suited to the quieter tastes of honeymooners, but the food and the surroundings certainly make it stand out. Set on a beautiful stretch of beach just at the northern tip of Watamu, the hotel became famous for its namesake and his love of big game fishing as well as the hotels great food and friendly service, all in the surroundings of a relaxed, luxury resort. The powder-white Watamu coastline, with the Watamu Marine park just off-shore, has recently been voted by the Times Readers as one of the top ten beaches in the world and is the perfect setting for relaxation and water-based activities. The hotel itself is made up of 74 rooms, ranging from standard to suite, which all have views of the Indian Ocean, air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. The emphasis for their design has been on simplicity and comfort. The rest of the hotel is centered around the two main pools and the Hemmingways bar, dedicated to the writer himself, is a place where many a tale of monsters is recounted. The real treat at Hemmingways has long been its food and service which truly ranks amongst the best, and, with a range of activities such as horse riding, mountain biking, scuba diving, sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, fishing and snorkeling to choose from, it is very difficult to warrant considering elsewhere. The beach at Diani, whilst busy these days, is still possibly the best along the coast and runs for miles. The House is a short walk to the famous bar and restaurant combination of the Forty Thieves and Ali Baba’s, and would suit a family or couple.

Each of these vast, luxury villas exudes an air of calm and class. The Alfajiri Villas are located a stones throw away from what must be one of the best beaches in Africa and, with very high standards of service and cuisine, this definitely ranks in the top 5 beach destinations in Kenya. We are big fans of all of the villas and, with them being bookable in total or partially, they make a suitable getaway for families and couples alike.

Located on the quiet beach at Galu, Kinondo Kwetu is ideally located on the southern coastline of Kenya. The concept behind the lodge is one of tradition meets seclusion, and it is also one of the most versatile of the beach lodges on this coastline with family rooms and suites offered. A stunning little lodge that offers something a bit different with the spa, horse riding and nearby ruins in a relaxed and beautiful location.
