Il Ngwesi: Our ViewWhere to start with a review of Il Ngwesi? The lodge that pioneered the concept of community owned and run tourism more than 10 years ago, it was heralded at the model to be emanated. Set in a private reserve in the shadow of the Laikipia Plateau, there is no doubting that the rooms and location are great….but, every time we go there, the service is very wanting. We would love to love it but feel that it doesn’t compare to some of the other community lodges available these days. A slightly rustic lodge, we struggle to love it and we rate it 2 paws Il Ngwesi: Fast Facts$520 per person per night (high season)
Il Ngwesi: The DetailThe award winning Eco-Lodge was built in 1996 on a rocky outcrop in an area of the Group Ranch set aside purely for Wildlife conservation. Made out of local materials, it is well known for its spectacular "open to the bush" design with stunning views in all directions. There are two communal areas, one at the front of the lodge overlooking the waterhole, and a second with a superb infinity pool which drops away into the wilderness. Both have covered areas for escaping the heat of the day & open areas allowing guests to dine under the stars. The lodge has six spacious bandas, five of them have single & double beds. The honey moon suite & room five have large double beds with a raised platform on which the beds may be rolled out for a night under the stars. Two of the rooms have also been skillfully joined by a bridge for large groups. Built on a slope, the fronts of the bandas are on stilts, giving guests in all rooms unforgettable views of the vast surrounding panorama. Staying at the lodge is truly special as visitors get a real taste of the bush whilst enjoying some home comforts whilst looked after by their impeccable Maasai hosts. You may also likeSamburu
Shaba National Park is probably one of the least known in Kenya...and long may it remain that way! Joy's was completed in 2007 and is a stunning, semi tented camp set on the fringes of a small lagoon complex.

This is a perfect retreat for any large group or family and offers utter seclusion in what is, after all, a relatively small wildlife conservancy.

Laragai is the private home of the Stephenson family and can be rented while they are away. The house is vast with all of the amenities that you would expect for a comfortable country house with a superb main area and a spread of rooms, all different in style and decoration. Laragai is the perfect place to host a wedding or to retire to as a family.
