Naibor: Our View

The slightly younger sister to the infamous Shompole Camp down on the Tanzanian border, Naibor is a beautiful tented camp set in a stunning area in the centre of the Mara.  Each of the 9 tents has been well thought out and use a side-opening construction that allows you to feel even more a part of the forest around you. While the lodge may not have the views of its neighbour, Rekero, both camps are in one of the best areas of the Mara.  With very good guiding and a spacious, relaxed atmosphere, this is a great little camp that makes you feel very much a part of the environment.  One of the top camps in the Mara.

We think Naibor is one of the best camps in the Mara, very personal, small, fantastic tents and works very well for a honeymoon or a luxurious safari, for that reason we give the 5 paws

Naibor: The Detail

Naibor is located in the heart of Kenya’s famous Masai Mara Game Reserve one hours flight from Nairobi. The camp is accesses by a bush airstrip just the other side of the river, approximately 30 minutes drive from camp.  
 
Naibor nestles in a grove of riverine forest on the banks of the Talek River, a short drive from the confluence of the Talek and the Mara River. The camp is raised up on the banks with a long drop down to the waters edge giving guests a great vantage point to the hippo filled river below.
 
Consisting of seven sweeping pale-canvas tents Naibor main fits a maximum of 14 guests. Right new door Little Naibor is a private two roomed tented camp with slightly higher levels of luxury than Naibor itself. Every one of the nine guest tents at Naibor and Little Naibor is a private unit complete with shady verandah, his & hers wash basins as well as an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and safari shower - filled daily with hot water on request. 
 
The tents nestle amongst a riverine forest and are spaced so that each has a unique view of the surrounding bush and wildlife.  With king-size beds, comfortable sofas and airy verandahs, the camp is luxurious yet manages to maintain that wild sense of adventure that a wild safari camp deserves.
 
Due to the camp location just up from the Mara/Talek confluence, guests are strategically placed for the wildebeest migration, being within twenty minutes drive of one of the major Mara River crossings and
 
Seeing as Naibor is located in the Masai Mara itself guests will find themselves spending the majority of their time game driving inside the park during daylight hours. There is no night driving in the Mara itself but guests can venture out of the reserve during daylight hours and walk or visit the local villages.

Loved our guides!   Loved that they wear their native Samburu tribe clothing. 
Naibor Camp was the most well run place that we stayed….and that is due to the outstanding camp managers and staff.  They made us feel right at home.
Loved the food….it was the best we ate on the trip.  And we had a lot of great food. 
Loved our Askari – they were all so very personable and service oriented.  I also love that they are dressed in African clothing. 
 
Had our best animal sightings at the Mara without a doubt.    Had incredible sightings and it was really so unique that you can get as close to the animals as you can in the Mara. 
Loved the bird sightings and the bird tour that Adam, one of the camp managers, provided.  So cool. 
 
A wonderful, wonderful experience!   We can’t say enough how much we enjoyed our stay.
Love telling folks about how we’d hear the hippos slipping back into the river in the wee hours of the morning after their evening grazing. Loved our story telling and discussions at the dinner table. Lots of fun!
