OL MALO LODGE

Laikipia

Ol Malo Lodge: Our View

It has been a true labour of love for the owners Colin, Rocky and their son Andrew, and they have succeeded in creating some thing very special. With 7 rooms in the lodge and 4 in the house ranging from the crocodile room and its crocodile bath, to the hippo rooms and their over head beds, each room has a certain character of its own. The house itself is vast and shares the views of Ol Malo which is about 20 minutes away. With features such as a rooftop sun deck, a large barbeque area and a luxury infinity pool.

We give this lodge 3 paws as it has good views and a good selection of activities

Ol Malo Lodge: The Detail

Ol Malo perches atop the edge of an escarpment that drops 600 meters down to the Laikipia Plateau. The camp is accordingly afforded spectacular views and a swim in the infinity pool feels like swimming on a cloud. Each of the rooms has been carefully pieced together from local stone and wood and the focus is dedicated to the view which can be seen throughout. The communal areas are well organised with meals and afternoon tea served in the main rooms at the top of the lodge. The camp can organise horse riding and game driving in the local area, or trips to visit one of the local Samburu villages that they help to look after in the area.

The concept behind Ol Lentille is a truly admirable one and the lodge follows in the footsteps of other Kenyan lodges who have tried to incorporate local communities into conservation rather than excluding them. The lodge itself is cleverly thought out with a range of differing options open for couples through to larger families.

The house is vast with all of the amenities that you would expect for a comfortable country house with a superb main area and a spread of rooms, all different in style and decoration.
