RICHARDS CAMP
Greater Mara
Richards Camp: Our ViewRichard and the Roberts’ family have long been synonymous with the Mara…as has Richard’s Camp, formerly Willie’s camp and also formerly the family home. The great thing about the lodge is that it has retained its air of being a family home and so, while not really offering the views of some of the other camps in the Mara, it feels totally comfortable and relaxed. This camp is ideal for a family or group booking, but also superb for a couple. Definitely a top choice! We give Richards Camp 4 Paws as it is one of the most authentic camps in the area and as is run with the family in residence, is run with a wonderfully intimate character. Richards Camp: The DetailRichard’s Camp is owned and operated by Richard Roberts and Liz Fusco. Their son Willoughby was born in 2006 and is growing up in the Mara. Richard was raised in the Masai Mara from the age of 3, and his parents, Willy and Sue were instrumental in bringing together the Masai communities that form the wildlife conservation association that exists in this area today. Richard’s camp’s first rate Masai and Samburu guides have an abundant and intimate knowledge of the Masai Mara, it’s wildlife and it’s people. Their area of the Masai Mara is owned and managed by the Masai people themselves under the name of The Ol Choro Oirouwa Wildlife Management and Conservation Association. A portion of every ‘client per night’ fee is put back into the community and local projects. Richard and his family continue to be very active in on-going Mara conservation projects as well as spear heading initiatives in other parts of Kenya. Your day is designed to be as exciting or relaxing as you wish. There is a variety of activities from which to choose - escorted bush walks, day and night game drives, sundowners, full days out with delicious picnic lunches into the very heart of the Mara, bush dinners down by the hippo pools, visiting the rhinos, and cultural visits to Masai villages - all tailor made to ensure a rewarding safari of a lifetime. A slightly younger sister to the infamous Shompole Camp down on the Tanzanian border, Naibor is a beautiful tented camp set in a stunning area in the centre of the Mara. Each of the 9 tents has been well thought out and use a side opening construction that allow you to feel even more a part of the forest around you.

Alex is really changing the way safari is considered in Kenya and East Africa. One of a group of camps that he has slowly developed, Serian is the perfect base away from the crowds of the Mara to use as a base for a few nights while using the mobile camps and walking safaris to go and see the herds.
