Tsavo

Tsavo is Kenya’s largest park and one of the largest anywhere in Africa. This is not to say that we suggest people travel here!!Located half way between Nairobi and the coast, the park is split by the Nairobi Mombasa highway.... and the railway! Although the park’s sheer size means there is always somewhere to get away from the crowds, you are never far away from something that will destroy the sense of wilderness that safari should be all about.
Apart from the highway and railway issue, Tsavo is located close to the coastal areas that focus on mass market tourism. Subsequently, every single day, sunburnt package holiday tourists cram into herds of minivans and set off for their 24 hour long safari. They explore the best game areas whilst staying in large, horrendous hotels.

As a result, Tsavo is simply not on our list of best places to visit and we would actively encourage you to consider elsewhere. Having said that, if you do find yourself on the coast down here and want a safari away from the crowds then Galdessa Camp is the best, and only option. It is a beautiful camp in a great area, but we wish it was located elsewhere!

Tsavo: Time of year to travel

Never.....unless mass market tourism is your thing! But Galdessa really is quite good.........

Tsavo
Situated in the Tsavo East National Park , the camp is spread along the river under doum palms overlooking the Galana River and the Yatta Plateau. The camp has a coastal/bush relaxed feel and is designed to blend with the environment using earthy colours and natural woods throughout.
