Eastern Beaches

The glorious East Coast beaches have attracted some of the best hotels to the north east corner, where long stretches of powder soft sand extend to cool pine groves and woodlands. These really are the best beaches on the island, although they can be a little windy during our summer months. The main hotels here are fine, stylish and make the most of their situation - claiming long expanses of this stunning coastline as their own.
This area is less developed and more isolated than the rest of the island, and the flat eastern landscape is ideal for the sugar cane plantations that extend for mile upon mile; views inland are of sugar cane, allotments and farmland in a patchwork array leading to the mountainous island centre.

Ile aux Cerfs is a lovely small island just south of Belle Mare, where you can swim and snorkel from the shore. There are shops, restaurants and a couple of local stalls selling coconuts and pineapples.  It is run by Le Touessrok, but is also open to the public.  Le Touessrok also manages another tiny island for the use of its own guests only.  Ile aux Cerfs is a paradise for water sports and has the fabulous beaches.  This tiny island is a real pearl.

The biggest village on the east coast is Flacq and is the site of the country’s largest open air market; a colourful, hot, crowded, slightly crazy weekly event.  Guests staying at hotels along this East Coast region may find it fun to explore the simple shopping options in Flaq and Belle Mare.

Belle Mare Plage is a big hotel, with just over 200 rooms, but with a huge footprint along a seriously stunning expanse of beach, you are guarenteed private moments and enjoy extremely good service.

A superb hotel, recently rennovated.  Rooms are slightly tired and there is only one pool, though food and service are superb.  Touessrok also has access to its own private island which is incredible.

Mauritius, East Coast
A good hotel on a lovely beach with a wonderful old colonial feel. However, there are drawbacks; there is only one main pool, the rooms are slightly small and the spa is subterranean.
