THE OBEROI

Mauritius, North Coast

The Oberoi: Our View

The newly opened Oberoi is an amazing hotel. The seperate suite rooms are staggering, especially those with private pools.  Huge grounds, and the rooms and areas have a wonderfully oriental feel.  The beach is lovely despite being too small.

5 Palms, the Oberoi is one of our favourite hotel on the island in the top price bracket

The Oberoi: The Detail

The hotel has an unusual architectural combination of the African, Indian, Far Eastern and European cultural influences of the island, but achieves an intimate and elegant atmosphere in serene, private surroundings with a great stretch of beach.

Nestled in twenty acres of sub tropical gardens beside Turtle Bay on Pointe aux Piments, this is an exclusive and luxurious retreat providing all the spa treatments, fine food, atmosphere and activities that you would hope for at this level of accommodation.
A member of the Small Luxury Leading Hotels of the World, there are 76 suites/villas of varying degrees of luxury, including private pools and gardens. The style is clean, contemporary and fairly solid; most all of the rooms at the Oberoi enjoy the luxury of a sunken marble bath and some villas have a romantic four-poster bed.

Villas have private dining gazebos with views of the sea, and panoramic ocean views are also good from the main, palm thatched restaurant, which allows for outdoor dining on starlit nights. The menu, like the overal style, includes European, Oriental and Creole dishes, and makes much of fresh local fruits, vegetables and spices.

Another fairly new hotel, the Taj has a great feel, and is unique  in that each of the rooms are suites with their own plunge pools.  The footprint of the hotel is enormous and very private, though this can make the hotel seem slightly souless
Mauritius, East Coast

A superb hotel, recently rennovated.  Rooms are slightly tired and there is only one pool, though food and service are superb.  Touessrok also has access to its own private island which is incredible.

Mauritius, East Coast
The jewel in hotel Constance's crown, Prince Maurice is one of the smaller of the hotels on the island.  Superb rooms with either a beach or lagoon view and a lovely huge pool.  One drawback is that the beach is not as good as others on the East Coast.
