Little Kulala: Our ViewLittle Kulala is Wilderness Safaris flagship lodge in Sossusvlei. Located only 45 minutes drive from the Sossusvlei Dunes themselves, Little Kulala has the best location of all the dune camps and is unquestionably the most luxurious of all the camps in the region. The eleven rooms all look out towards the red dunes off Sossusvlei and come complete with air con, wall to wall windows, private plunge pools and rooftop star gazing beds. Quite simply, the level accommodation here is in a league of its own. Little Kulala is a difficult lodge to rate due to the fact that the area has very few lodges and because there always seem to be a negative to so many of the accommodation options here. Little Kulala therefore gets 5 paws due to the good location and luxury on offer because nowhere else really excels, but also due to the fact that it has a private access route to Sossusvlei meaning that you can avoid the crowds that tend to rush to the dunes in the early hours of the morning. Little Kulala: The DetailLittle Kulala lies in the heart of the Namib and offers magnificent views of the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei as well as the mountainous scenery and vast open plains. This acclaimed Wilderness Safaris desert retreat is in the only reserve with direct access to Sossusvlei. An elegant entertainment area includes al fresco fine dining as a highlight. The 11 stylish thatched villas blend harmoniously into the timeless desert landscape, with exquisite fittings and fixtures and innovative bleached decks. Each climate controlled villa has a private plunge pool and a rooftop ‘skybed’ for romantic stargazing, with both indoor and outdoor showers. Early morning guided excursions to the spectacular towering dunes are through a private gate into the reserve. Guided nature drives and walks are also offered on the private reserve with incredible views, desert animals and smaller desert fauna and flora. Another option, at extra cost, is a 60-minute balloon safari at first light, offering a truly unique experience to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes and desert, ending with a champagne breakfast.

Ongava Game lodge is the largest of Wilderness Safaris lodges in Etosha and ultimately are least favourite. As much as we appreciate the quality of the operational side of this lodge we don’t see the point of spending the same amount here as at Ongava Tented Lodge but getting what we believe is a far less quality experience. |
