Cultural Tourism Botswana

The Bushmen of the Kalahari have struggled to maintain not only their traditional hunter-gatherer lifestyle but also their lives, as the modern world has so encroached and threatened them. One of the most ancient tribal cultures, they have maintained the ability to survive in the brutal desert conditions, now on the fringes of the Kalahari, and treasure their long inherited hunting, tracking and survival skills.
It is only thanks to recent community initiatives that we are able to organise hunts and stays with Bushmen in a sensitive and mutually beneficial environment. Extended hunting trips with Uncharted Africa really are worthwhile, and a fascinating insight into the a unique and almost extinct way of life, and may include an opportunity to remain for the tribal Trance Dance that follows a successful hunt.
The Makgadikgadi Pans are the remains of an ancient superlake that is believed to have covered a vast percentage of Southern Africa. The area is a dramatic, desolate lunar expanse where you can literally see the curvature of the earth. Made up from miles of shimmering white salt, the Makgadikgadi Pans evoke a sense of complete wilderness in an area seemingly untouched by humankind. One of Africa's truly unique destinations.
