Fishing In Tanzania

There are various options for enjoying good fishing in Tanzania, mostly sea fishing along the incredibly rich East African Coast. The Indian Ocean here is the site of many a world record, and there are also fly-fishing opportunities in Southern Tanzania.
Most fishing options in Tanzania are secondary considerations, bookable locally. We will advise which coastal and island accommodation have the best equipment and boats. But if you are a dedicated fisherperson, there are a couple of notable exceptions, such as the island fishing camp of Lua Chia in Mafia Island and Sand Rivers Selous, (see below).

Sea fishing, fly fishing, options for non-fishing friends... we can advise.

The Mafia archipelago is a group of five remote sleepy islands 45 minutes flight south of Zanzibar. Wild, quiet and unkept, the islands offer an alternative for those trying to escape the huslte and bustle of Zanzibar. Regarded by many as a reflection of what Zanzibar was like years ago, Mafia is a fantastic option for those wanting something a little different.

Selous is Africa’s largest and oldest game reserve, and one of its most scenic wildlife destinations. With its rivers and lakes, open vistas and green woodlands, Selous is utterly beautiful. The beauty of the reserve is matched by the quality of safaris here; boating safaris, walking and fly camping compliment standard game driving in areas with masses of wildlife action. This is an outrageously good safari park that is an essential destination in any Southern circuit itinerary.
Pemba is a beautifully quiet island that lies about 25 minutes flight North of Zanzibar. With a fraction of the visitors that visit Zanzibar visiting Pemba, the island has very few hotels yet retains a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The ocean here provides for some of Tanzania’s best dive sites and subsequently Pemba is a Mecca for serious divers and for people wanting to escape the hussle and bustle of Zanzibar.
