Walking In Botswana
The varied and unspoilt landscapes of Botswana make for rewarding walking safari country. Your experience here will most likely be in a small or private group, with an excellent guide, in a concession area. All the private reserves are very good for walking, with thriving wildlife and scenery.
Among the best walking safaris are those run by Chitabe Walking Trails, for groups of at least four people over a period of days. For something slightly cheaper than the private reserves, (roughly half the price!), there are seriously superb combined canoeing/walking trails at Selinda which we heartily recommend. Alternatively, we also wholeheartedly recommend enlivening walks with bushmen guides in Mkadikadi and the Kalahari.
The Linyanti Reserve is owned by Wilderness Safaris, Southern Africa's most luxurious operator. Located just to the west of the famous Savute marsh area of the Chobe National Park, the reserve is one of the best examples of Botswana's high end private reserves. The game viewing on offer is simply superb with beautifully visible predators and high concentrations of elephant and buffalo.
The joy of Botswana is the exclusive treatment; you can often set your own pace. This is particularly worthwhile for families or groups with differing abilities; and it is worth noting that there are some memorably good camps here from which to enjoy walking safaris with younger children.

There is no doubt that this concession hosts some of the best game in Botswana and yet Chitabe itself is such a good price compared with elsewhere (this camp really could sell for more and still be full all year!).
The teak furniture created by Zimbabwean master craftsmen is elegant, comfortable and simple. Most of the tents are raised on teak decks to afford views over the surrounding plains and lagoon with the resident hippos.
