A safari holiday in Africa is always an amazing experience. The sheer adventure of travelling to Africa to witness the raw beauty of its vast natural playground is fairly obvious, but the reasons why it is often more special than you had hoped, is not !
A safari holiday is usually an expensive treat, because invariably you will travel long distances into gorgeously remote regions. The best lodges are usually fairly small, due to National Park requirements and the logistics of staffing and supplying a smaller place.
Consequently, the standards of service that you receive are invariably outstanding; in certain camps it is necessary to be personally escorted to supper, lest you become supper yourself! This may sound a little over the top, but the joy of a safari holiday is that very real frisson of life that comes from feeling a little bit more mortal, a little more alive. Safari holidays are a change as much as a rest, requiring a complete change of environment and often a wholehearted trust in your guides and camp managers! Once you have made your final itinerary choices, there is little for you to do other than sit back and enjoy the ride. You will be met and escorted, whisked off on adventures, startled with spectacular sun-downer treats, brought morning tea and biscuits, and generally treated like royalty until you leave! A safari holiday may involve slightly less civilised hours than you may desire, as in some of the best camps and lodges there may be a call to head out on game drives at horribly early hours in the morning. A first case response to refuse such horrors should be countered with the advice to just give a go; the early morning safari often catches the early lion or leopard doing something other than sleeping, and often involves a storming bush breakfast, deliciously arrayed in some beautiful place and often as secretly rewarding as the wildlife action around you. An early safari start is often balanced with a long siesta option in the middle of the day, when the sun is hottest and most wildlife is resting.
