Safari Holidays

A safari holiday in Africa is always an amazing experience. The sheer adventure of travelling to Africa to witness the raw beauty of its vast natural playground is fairly obvious, but the reasons why it is often more special than you had hoped, is not !
A safari holiday is usually an expensive treat, because invariably you  will travel long distances into gorgeously remote regions. The best lodges are usually fairly small, due to National Park requirements and the logistics of staffing and supplying a smaller place.

Consequently, the standards of service that you receive are invariably outstanding; in certain camps it is necessary to be personally escorted to supper, lest you become supper yourself! This may sound a little over the top, but the joy of a safari holiday is that very real frisson of life that comes from feeling a little bit more mortal, a little more alive. Safari holidays are a change as much as a rest, requiring a complete change of environment and often a wholehearted trust in your guides and camp managers! Once you have made your final itinerary choices, there is little for you to do other than sit back and enjoy the ride. You will be met and escorted, whisked off on adventures, startled with spectacular sun-downer treats, brought morning tea and biscuits, and generally treated like royalty until you leave!

A safari holiday may involve slightly less civilised hours than you may desire, as in some of the best camps and lodges there may be a call to head out on game drives at horribly early hours in the morning. A first case response to refuse such horrors should be countered with the advice to just give a go; the early morning safari often catches the early lion or leopard doing something other than sleeping, and often involves a storming bush breakfast, deliciously arrayed in some beautiful place and often as secretly rewarding as the wildlife action around you.  An early safari start is often balanced with a long siesta option in the middle of the day, when the sun is hottest and most wildlife is resting.

Home to the Serengeti, Kilimanjaro, and Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania is probably Africa’s most famous safari destination, and even the lesser known parks of Selous and Ruaha provide exceptional safaris.  It is also the easiest country to combine a safari with a Zanzibar beach
A safari in Botswana is easily the most exclusive and expensive of anywhere in Africa.  Private reserves in the world famous Okavango Delta and Moremi host exceptional game viewing, the broadest range of activities, and the highest standard of accommodation
Kenya was the original safari market and still suffers from its mass market approach to tourism. However there are many great destinations that are away from the crowds.  Kenya’s safari and beach combinations are easy and affordable and the Masai Mara is one of Africa's most iconic parks

Namibia has some of the most dramatic scenery in Africa, and this is its focus. Sossusvlei and the Skeleton Coast are outstanding locations with unbelievable scenery, but the wildlife safaris in Etosha are not as impressive as those in neighbouring countries
Zambia has long been regarded as the country for safari enthusiasts and second timers, but today Zambia caters for all clients. The undisputed home of the walking safari, owner run camps, and incredible levels of guiding.  However its season is short - May til October
Zimbabwe has been through hell, but it still has some outstanding camps and safari lodges. Its struggle has resulted in excellent value and we are seeing the country slowly regain its status as one of Africa’s best game viewing destinations
