It is currently possible to get a tourist visa on arrival for USD$50 cash presuming you EU citizens  and USD$100 if you are a US Citizen and providing your passport is valid for at least 6 months before your departure to Tanzania and has at least 4 unused consecutive blank pages.

Or you can obtain these prior to departure from the Tanzania High Commission - (3 Stratford Place, London, W1C  1AS - Tel 020 7569 1470 - or in the US 2139 R Street, Washington, D.C. 20008; 202-9396125 www.tanzaniaembassy-us.org)
They are usually issued within 24 hours and require 2 passport photographs and payment of £38 in cash.

When filling in the visa form please put as your reference in Tanzania "Coastal Travels, Dar, Tanzania - Tel 255 22 2117959".  You may also be asked for the means of financial support - put "Pre arranged by UK Tour Operator". 

Please note that the visa is only valid for 90 from the date of issue.

You will be asked to show proof of a vaccination on arrival.  Mozambique also require a Yellow Fever certificate to be produced on arrival.
 
Malaria
Malaria is endemic throughout these areas.  There are a number of prophylactics available and be sure to obtain one from your physician and follow his directions.  If, despite taking recommended drugs, you feel unwell and feverish, seek medical advice as soon as possible.  If you are already in the UK, please do not forget to mention that you have been in a Malaria Zone.
 
Other
We do recommend that you consult your doctor about other recommended injections, normally the advice is that Typhoid and Hepatitis injections should be taken.  The BA travel clinic (0207 4399584) or Trailfinders (0207 9383999) can provide advice about these requirements.

We advise you carry heavy objects (cameras, books etc.) as hand luggage.  Please would you also take your luggage in soft bags rather than rigid suitcases (ie a kit bag or soft sided suitcase  rather than a hard sided suitcase, and one without wheels or handles).

From the UK
There are two entry points into Tanzania; Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro. The only direct route to Dar es Salaam is with British Airways from London Heathrow which flies 3 or 4 times per week.   Read more

There are two entry points into Tanzania; Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro. The only direct route to Dar es Salaam is with British Airways from London Heathrow which flies 3 or 4 times per week.
 
For Kilimanjaro which is in the North of Tanzania, the best route to use is KLM  which routes through Amsterdam stopping off in Kilimanjaro before continuing to Dar es Salaam.
 
From the USA
It is best to route through London or Amsterdam, connecting with either the British Airways flight to Dar es Salaam or KLM through Amsterdam. KLM has links with Delta and British Airways has links with American Airlines.
