DAR HOUSE

Zanzibar, South-East Coast

Dar House: Our View

Dar House is a great option for those looking for sheer privacy. It is not the first private house on the island and a few have recently sprung up, but it is the best value and in a great location. The experience behind the owners gives us no doubt this house will work well.

We give Dar house 3 palms because it is new and we have never stayed there. But we back the owners and have a lot of faith in the product. Like all new places, we will allow for a short teething process.

Dar House: The Detail

“Dar House is all yours’ for as long as you want.”

Whether you are 2 or 8 in number, you get to sleep around, choosing beds that are poolside, rooftop or en-suite as the day goes by.

A serpentine-like pool weaves through a tropical garden lined with palms, a deck for dining and lounging looks out to sand and lagoons, plus an inner courtyard for privacy and three large ensuite bedrooms. So this is one of Zanzibar’s first private retreats.

The house comes with a very talented chef/manager, housekeeping, gardener and watchmen, who take care of all your needs. There is wireless internet and media available for those looking to keep in touch with the outside world.

You can take advantage of all the typical beach activities that Zanzibar has to offer. Snorkelling, diving, dhow sailing, dolphin trips, visits to the Jozani Forest, visits to Stone Town and spice tours. These activities are outsourced and therefore allows you to be flexible with where on the island you want to go.

Zanzibar, North Coast
One of our favourite hotels on Zanzibar and one of the best along the East African coast. The beach here is the best on Zanzibar and unlike much of the east coast, is free of hawkers and general hustlers. Nungwi village just down the coast is a great place to go out and have a few drinks or a bite of lunch.
Zanzibar, West Coast
When Kilindi started up it was seen as the new number one the island. But after a rather lengthy and painful teething process it hasn’t really delivered what the price tag should produce.
Zanzibar, East Coast
Definitely the most luxurious small lodge on Zanzibar. The lodge has the best rooms on the Island for those of us who want all the creature comforts and also has seriously great food and service.
