FOXES KATAVI WILDLIFE CAMP
Katavi
Foxes Katavi Wildlife Camp: Our ViewThis lovely little camp, although simple, is what we think Katavi and safari is all about. Very comfortable considering where you are, the camp benefits hugely from having a prime spot at the mouth of the Katuma River. Every day, during the dry season, a whole host of game can be seen wandering into what is the only water source for miles around. It is common to have lion feasting right by your tent! Katavi is definitely one of the three parks in Africa where the wilderness experience has not been tamed. In Katavi there are really only two places to stay, here or Chada. We would only reccomend booking here if you are able to book Apollo as your private guide as he is one of the best in Katavi. Still, it is a great camp in a very special national park and for that reason we give it 5 paws Foxes Katavi Wildlife Camp: Fast Facts$505 per person per night (high season)
Foxes Katavi Wildlife Camp: The DetailKatavi National Park is universally recognized as one of the few truly remote and untouched areas of Tanzania’s immense conservation areas. This is primarily due to its position in the far south west of the country and the associated cost and time involved in reaching the park. For those who do take the time to visit, an unforgettable safari awaits them. Being one of the least visited National Parks is a bonus for the few who make it, not a reflection on the experience to be had there – it is a place for those seeking the Africa of decades past. The remoteness and vast ecosystem has meant that the lush floodplains attract an immense biomass and huge herds of wildlife; it is not uncommon to see herds of 2,000 buffalo at a time. Along with large herds of topi and zebra, buffalo graze the plains during the day when they are less vulnerable to predators, preferring to return to the relative safety of the woodland at night. Their predators maintain the balance by ambushing them as they return to the woodland! The site for the camp was discovered by Bruce Fox and his brother, wandering off into the wilds to the west of Ruaha and stumbling onto what is probably the best game viewing spot in the park. Each of the tents is set in amongst the trees that fringe the floodplain; thus providing a cool and camouflaged place from which to witness the herds as they run the gauntlet for water. The rooms are very large and the lodge feels certainly more permanent than Chada Camp which is the other great camp in this National Park. You may also likeKatavi
