FUMBA BEACH LODGE
Zanzibar, West Coast
Fumba Beach Lodge: Our ViewOn the whole, this is a very good hotel with the Suites standing out as a very good option. The communal area for the hotel is really what makes it and while the rooms are all very clean and tidy, the only drawback for us is that, unless you are in one of the suites, the beach is pretty much non-existent. The only bit of beach here is yellow and not the white sand like on the other side of the island. Fumba has a lot of character but the main issue is the beach. For this reason, we give it 2 palm, as for the same money, you can get a similar lodge with an excellent beach. Fumba Beach Lodge: Fast Facts$290 per person per night (high season)
Fumba Beach Lodge: The DetailThe main focus of the lay out is on the communal area which is made up of a beautiful old dhow which has been converted into a bar by the sea, a great infinity pool that smoothly mingles with the ocean behind it, and open air dining area and a large open sided bar for the rare day that it rains. As far as the rooms go, to the left of the main area are the 6 honeymoon rooms. Separated by well placed palms and baobab trees, all of these rooms have private access to the beach and large open air showers and baths. To the right of the communal area are the standard rooms, or ordered in two rows with garden views and sea views. The rooms themselves have all been designed with luxury and space in mind. With a new spa just installed, this is a great place to wind down after a safari or plane ride. The food here is fantastic and they really do take advantage of the local spices and delicacies. One of our favourite hotels on Zanzibar and one of the best along the East African coast. The beach here is the best on Zanzibar and unlike much of the east coast, is free of hawkers and general hustlers. Nungwi village just down the coast is a great place to go out and have a few drinks or a bite of lunch.

Matemwe Bungalows is great small lodge with a relaxed atmosphere, airy rooms and great views out to Mnemba Island. A great place to relax being near a great diving spot and enjoy lying back on your hammock looking out onto the Indian Ocean. Zanzibar, East Coast
Set on tip of an Eastern peninsula of Zanzibar, Kono Kono is surrounded by a protected reserve, allowing extreme privacy. The lodge itself is tranquil and remote and the rooms extremely spacious, all offering the joy of a private plunge pool!
