Gemma D'ell Este: Our ViewWhilst it is certainly one of the largest hotels that we offer, has a range of room options which allows it to still feel relatively intimate...of which the Executive Villa is the pick. The hotel is probably not worthy of the five stars of which it boasts, but, all the same, the standards of service and the beach speak for themselves. Personally I veer away from hotels of this type, but it will certainly remain popular non-the-less. We do not rate Gemma that highly at all. It is obscenely large and offers no character. Gemma D'ell Este: The DetailThis hotel is one of the new, goliath hotels that have begun to spring up in the northern parts of Zanzibar. The hotel is made up of around 138 rooms, all with air conditioning and traditional Zanzibari interiors. It is located on the north western peninsular of Zanzibar on arguably the best beach that there is. The benefit of being over on this side is that the tide does not retreat as far as on the east coast, and you can watch the sun setting as opposed to rising. The main area, central to everything, is made up of three interconnecting pools and a restaurant/cafe on stilts over the water. Food is a central theme in the hotel with a pizzeria, an a la carte restaurant and the main restaurant. With a good dive operation and a beach that stretched for miles there is also plenty of water activities to consider. You may also likeZanzibar, East Coast

One of our favourite hotels on Zanzibar and one of the best along the East African coast. The beach here is the best on Zanzibar and unlike much of the east coast, is free of hawkers and general hustlers. Nungwi village just down the coast is a great place to go out and have a few drinks or a bite of lunch.
