KILINDI
Zanzibar, West Coast
Kilindi: Our ViewKilindi is a relative newcomer to luxury beach accommodation on Zanzibar. After a rather lengthy (and if we are totally honest, rather painful teething process) Elewana's fairly recent take over of the property has meant that Kilindi finally delivers the results such a unique design deserves. The recent addition of air-conditioning makes it all the more appealing. The only downside is the beach, which is not as good as other places on the island. However, with private plunge pools in every suite the 'luxury pavilions' are where you'll spend most of your time. In summary, pricey and a poor beach, but an outstanding lodge and a welcome breath of fresh air on Zanzibar. Finally Kilindi is living up to expectations!!! The best rooms on the island and very good levels of service etc make this lodge one of the best on the island. Slight issues with the beach, but the pavilions and private plunge pools more than make up for it. Kilindi: Fast Facts$650 per person per night (high season)
Kilindi: The DetailKilindi is located on the North West of Zanzibar which is an Indian Ocean Island just of the coast of Tanzania, only a 20 minute flight from Dar es Salaam. The fifteen pavilions, spa and restaurant are dotted across the property, exploiting the elevation and expanse of the land, to ensure each unit has uninterrupted views over the 500 metres of beachfront. The plot has been sensitively landscaped to retain an ambience of natural wilderness of the coast, whilst the spa and each pavilion is enclosed within the walls of its own private lush tropical garden, with plants specifically chosen to attract the birds and butterflies native to the region. The recent addition of Air Conditioning in the Pavilions ensures that your stay is comfortable all year around. Kilindi, in its entirety, has been designed to subtly make use of all its space in order to pay homage to the extreme natural beauty of the location. Each pavilion consists of a comfortable shaded baraza seating area, sun deck, an enormous wet-room with rain-shower and two plunge pools from which to soak in the views; one of which lies at the foot of the spacious bed to naturally cool the room with the sea breezes. Logically-eco architecture allows the domed roofs, which deflect the heat of the sun, to harvest rain-water that is recycled into the bathrooms and gardens. The culinary side of things is where Kilindi excels. The emphasis is on fresh, locally sourced produce (supported by Kilindi’s own market garden). A premium wine list also offers guests the choice of the very best South African, Italian, French and Lebanese classics. You may also likeZanzibar, East Coast
