MBUZI MAWE

Serengeti, Central

Mbuzi Mawe: Our View

A welcome break from the Serena chain and one of the best value small camps around. The 16 rooms however are booked up well in advance so if you do want a room, don’t hang around. However, the camp is very season, only grabbing the migration as it heads north during June and July and back south in November, very briefly.

This camp definitely gets a good 3 paw rating. Much smaller than the rest of the Serena branded hotels, this lodge has a lot to offer and a wealth of experience in the company.

Mbuzi Mawe: The Detail

Very different to all of the other Serena properties, Mbuzi Mawe is a small tented camp as opposed to a large hotel designed to fit in more with the authentic safari atmosphere than the larger hotel chains.

The Serena's website describes Mbuzi Mawe as 'A place of infinite calm surrounded by untamed majesty.... offering a timeless blend of classical safari rusticity and the world-class professionalism of Serena Safari Lodges, Resorts and Hotels'. We certainly agree; it is about time that the Serena group created something along these lines (although untamed majesty may be slightly over the top).

It is however in a superb location, set below a huge granite kopjie (outcrop) that towers above the camp which is set in an area of the Serengeti that is home to the migration for parts of the year and has superb resident game for the remainder.

Serengeti, Central
Dunia is a great 8 tent mobile camp in the central Serengeti, Seronera area. Great value compared to some of its neighbours and ideal if you are looking for an intimate safari experience in this game rich area compared with some of the larger permanent hotels near by. Fantastic for the Migration December though to July.
Serengeti, Mobile
The camps are well organised and each tent has been designed with cool and comfort in mind. With a bucket shower as standard this is still bush camping, but with the flamboyant extras that &Beyond seem to endow to all of their properties such as a flush loo and chandeliers.
Serengeti, Western Corridor

Grumeti is a fabulous, beautifully appointed camp in the Western Serengeti, located on the Grumeti River, one of the crossing points of the annual Great Migration. Safaris in this part of the Serengeti can be simply stunning.
