Ngorongoro Crater Lodge: The DetailNgorongoro Crater Lodge is perched on the edge of the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, south east of the Serengeti in Northern Tanzania. The lodge is the most luxurious property in the Ngorongoro area which is accessible by light aircraft into and out of the Lake Manyara Airstrip which is only 30 minutes from Arusha where most Northern Safaris start and end. The Lodge is split into 3 camps, North, South and Tree Camp. North and South are identical to each other both with excellent views and Tree Camp is set on the crater rim with slightly smaller guest rooms but views through the trees. Inspired in design by the Maasai mud-and-stick manyatta (homestead), Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is without doubt one of the most architecturally spectacular safari lodges in Africa. The main dining area has huge chandeliers, deep red decor and you cannot escape the incredible view of the crater through every window. The lodge has 30 rooms which are separated into 3 camps so you only feel like you are in a 10 bed lodge, each with their own huge dining area and drawing room. The rooms are almost over the top with deep reds on the walls and chandeliers and open bathrooms each with a balcony looking onto the lawn before the view spills onto the deep crater. Each room is allocated a butler for your stay. The Crater Lodge can provide some of the best game viewing drives into the crater and Ngorongoro Conservation area that East Africa can offer. Bush walks around the lodge are also available, as well as excursions to Olduvai Gorge. For those that want to take some "time out" from the rigors of a game drive you are invited to use the library and relax in this beautiful lodge. Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Serena is a great lodge to use as a well-priced base for safaris in the Crater. The views are utterly breathtaking, and its location on the Crater rim earns it a good rating. However, for those of us who prefer to avoid the crowds and have an authentic safari, the Serena is not the best place to stay.

The camps are well organised and each tent has been designed with cool and comfort in mind. With a bucket shower as standard this is still bush camping, but with the flamboyant extras that &Beyond seem to endow to all of their properties such as a flush loo and chandeliers.
