RAS NUNGWI
Zanzibar, North Coast
Ras Nungwi: Our ViewOne of our favourite beach hotels and one of the most consistent performers on Zanzibar. The beach here is the best on the island and unlike much of the east coast, is free of hawkers and general hustlers. Nungwi village, about half an hours walk down the coast, is a great place to go out and have a few drinks or a bite of lunch. Ras Nungwi earns a 5 palm rating as it a great all rounder, one of the best beaches and great value. It is a medium sized lodge with the facilities or a larger hotel including a great Dive School. Ras Nungwi: Fast Facts$240 per person per night in a Superior Chalet (high season)
Ras Nungwi: The DetailThe hotel spreads out across floral and sandy garden paths on a beautiful stretch of unspoilt, breathtaking coastline. A spacious thatch restaurant and bar provide 180 degree views of the horizon beneath an impressive makuti thatch, and numerous little 'hide-away' areas create atmospheric spots for guests to relax and enjoy their surroundings in privacy and peace. The terraced lodge rooms are all self contained and each has its own veranda, and of these rooms 32 and 33 actually have excellent views of the sea and a huge shared veranda, with an adjoining door that make these an excellent choice for families, or a couple of couples. The deluxe and superior deluxe chalets are all detached or semi-detached, with private balconies and views across the bay and a choice of air conditioning or a fan. The distinction between the two room types is that superior deluxe are closer to the beachfront, newer, larger, and afford even greater privacy as they are situated on the far western side of the hotel. The atmosphere and supreme beach make this a very popular choice. Local chefs focus on making the most of fresh local spice and produce, and provide a fine daily menu that relies heavily on fruit and seafood. A fantastic new swimming pool has been built at the centre of the garden, raised on an elegant platform in easy reach of the bar, with great views of the sea. The hotel has recently been superbly renovated throughout, and work has included a games area with a table tennis, pool table and even a cunningly disguised television room. Ras Nungwi is ideally located for diving the north east coast and Mnemba atoll, and the popular dive centre provides equipment and guides for all abilities. Deep-sea fishing, wind-surfing, and dhow cruises are all equally available, and for watersports Nungwi it is unbeateable. Ras Nungwi: Client Reviews
We finished our African adventure in Zanzibar staying at Ras Nungwi. Again excellent accomodation, food and friendly attentive staff.
So thanks once again to you all
Jayne and Barry Monaghan, 2010Ras Nungwi was absolutely lovely. It had a friendly, family atmosphere. The staff were terrific – helpful, attentive and charming. The food was first rate, and I really liked the idea of dinner being served at a set time with a set menu. The accommodation was spacious, well maintained and comfortable. And the beach was stunning. It was a perfect place to unwind after a month of serious sightseeing in India. Matt Allchurch 2009 A beautiful place and a great way to unwind at the end of the trip with 5 nights at the beach Loved our waterfront bungalow and were very impressed by the resort staff and resort. Great food as well Jeff & Shannon Ansbaugh 2011 Show me more > Click here to see all reviews and testimonials

Quiet, away from it, all but with fabulous rooms, great food and friendly unpretentious service. This is the best value beach accommodation and one of the most beautiful small lodges to be found anywhere in Tanzania.

What a lodge! We really like Shooting Star for a number of reasons: the view is stunning, the pool superb, the rooms are all spacious with the added bonus of air-con and the food really is good.

When Kilindi started up it was seen as the new number one the island. But after a rather lengthy and painful teething process it hasn’t really delivered what the price tag should produce.
