SASAKWA LODGE
Serengeti, Grumeti Reserves
Sasakwa Lodge: Our ViewSasakwa is one of Africa’s most famous properties. With the Serengeti’s most impressive views and a level of accommodation which will rival any luxurious hotel on the planet, Sasakwa genuinely is breathtaking. The luxury of the lodge is complemented by a truly superb kitchen - lots of lodges have "great" or "excellent" food but Sasakwa has the very best. We love this lodge – it is expensive but it really is very, VERY good. Bizarrely we actually believe it is good value for money. *Rating* Sasakwa is not your average safari lodge, it is a destination in itself, where one of the main activities happens to be safari! The accommodation and service here is at a completely different level to anywhere else. 5 paws...no question! Sasakwa Lodge: Fast Facts$1,750 per person per night (high season)
Sasakwa Lodge: The DetailSet in Tanzania’s private Singita Grumeti Reserves above the Serengeti National Parks Western corridor, Sasasakwa is the flagship lodge of the famous Singita Grumeti Reserves. Located 1.5 hours flight from Kilimanjaro Airport, Sasakwa is to the West of Fort Ikoma, above the Grumeti River. The lodge is approximately a thirty minute drive from the private Sasakwa airstrip. Sasakwa Lodge is situated on top of Sasakwa hill with panoramic views of the Serengeti Plains. The lodge is built in the style of an East African ranch house and consists of ten luxurious cottages offering between one and four bedrooms. The main area is a huge ranch house with exceptional views over the Serengeti plains - quite simply they are some of the finest views in Africa. The ranch house has a huge swimming pool as well as croquet lawn, snooker room, cigar room, dining room, library and a number of other areas that can be taken for private dining. Each air-conditioned suite features a bedroom, lounge with fire place, veranda, en-suite bathroom with bath, shower, dressing area, guest bathroom, guest toilet, private living room, private plunge pool and veranda with Swarovski spotting scope. Cottages feature a personal bar and fridge, electronic safe, air-conditioning, direct dial telephone (US lines), wireless internet access and fire replaces. There is wheelchair access to certain cottages. Cottage no. 7 (4 bedrooms) even contains a basement nanny flat which has 2 x twin bedrooms, both en-suite. The lodge also has satellite television. Thousands of wildebeest fill the surrounding plains from the end of May through June to the middle of August. The experience here is unlike any other in the Serengeti during this period. Outside of the Great Migration months the Singita reserve is a superb choice to include at the end of a mobile camp safari – there is certainly nothing better than ending your Northern Tanzania safari in one of the countries most luxurious lodges! The company also often offers special low season deals throughout this period. As part of the private Singita Grumeti Reserves, guests can effectively do what they want whilst they are on safari here. Sasakwa offers standard game drives at day and night as well as horse riding, walking safari, archery, tennis and bike riding. The equestrian centre here is one of the finest in Africa and the camp also has a gym, spa and yoga facility. Balloon safaris are available but are extra to the nightly rate.
