SERENGETI SERENA
Serengeti, Central
Serengeti Serena: Our ViewThis is a beautiful hotel that has a very personal feel to it (as good as a big hotel can go) and a great location in the park. It has the edge on other hotels of its size, as the small huts allow for a real sense of privacy and feeling of being out in the bush. It is a perfect place to spend a few days year round, but particularly during the migration months of May through to July. If the more authentic option is something you are looking for we would recommend the mobile tented camps first, such as Dunia, but for the those wanting pools and for groups of children it is a good choice. We give the Serengeti Serena a good 3 paw rating. We are not big fans of large hotels, but the Serena is an exception and is great value and offers a lovely service and location. Serengeti Serena: The DetailThis is a fantastically designed hotel, all constructed in an East African-inspired design from local rock and wood and thatch. Makonde carvers have shaped and polished and carved seemingly every door handle and rail, and rooms are wonderfully shaped into unusual but superbly comfortable pixie houses that resemble mushrooms. The rooms feel very private, with just three extremely spacious and comfortable sections to each, and most have good, uninterrupted views across the surrounding Serengeti Plains. Views are also good from the central dining room and the separate cosy bar, both of which are situated slightly higher on the hill, beneath an impressively lofty makuti thatch. These are just a stones throw from the Serengeti Serena’s crowning feature, a magnificently situated drop-off pool surrounded by shady trees and sun beds set out in private areas. The restaurant is notably good, with fantastic nightly buffets and much of the food cooked before your eyes in the open-air kitchen. You may also likeSerengeti
Located just north of Seronera, Bilila Lodge sits high on a raised terrain with views over the Serengeti and constant game moving through the lodge due to their permanent water hole, this 77 room lodge offers great comfort but not necessarily a true safari experience.
Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Serena is a great lodge to use as a well-priced base for safaris in the Crater. The views are utterly breathtaking, and its location on the Crater rim earns it a good rating. However, for those of us who prefer to avoid the crowds and have an authentic safari, the Serena is not the best place to stay.
Ngorongoro Highlands
Plantation Lodge is surrounded by the coffee plantations in the Ngorongoro Highlands giving its guests both the excitement of a safari In the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park and the luxury of an extremely comfortable lodge.
