THE ROYAL LIVINGSTONE

Livingstone and Victoria Falls

The Royal Livingstone: Our View

Overall the Royal Livingstone is a remarkably nice but large hotel with great food, great pool and good service.  Its location is the closest to the Falls and with zebra literally walking around the swimming pool there is something really special about this hotel.  In a nutshell we would love to hate it as it is so big....but actually, we love it!  Just be careful on how much you eat and drink here - extras are priced exceptionally high.

The Royal Livingstone, apart from it being really big, is a welcome break from the usual safari style accommodation, with an exceptional location, great service and perfect for a 2 or 3 night stay. It gets 4 paws as the aforementioned benefits compensate for its size.

The Royal Livingstone: The Detail

The Royal Livingstone is a Sun International hotel located on the forested banks of the great Zambezi River, one thousand yards upstream of the mighty Victoria Falls.  The hotel comprises 173 spacious en-suite guestrooms, each with its own private veranda, stretched along the river bank.  All guestrooms are luxuriously furnished, with crisp white linen and large comfortable beds to welcome and offer the perfect sanctuary to retire in.  Bathrooms feature spacious showers and Victorian style baths.

The Royal Livingstone dining room is the hotel's main restaurant, offering a unique top-class breakfast, ‘alfresco” lunches and a dinner à la carte menu with a dazzling array of dishes from the river and ocean, as well as bush and game fare.

Light lunch is served “alfresco” on the veranda overlooking the rolling lawns and the Zambezi River.  Light refreshments are also served throughout the day.  Guests may pass lazy days on the magnificent sundeck overlooking the Zambezi as it flows relentlessly to the Falls.

Wilderness Safaris new property at the Falls is one of the best value properties in the whole area. Cheaper by over one hundred dollars a night than the nearby Wilderness Safaris owned River Club, we believe Toka Leya is an utter bargain.

The River Club is in our view the finest property at Victoria Falls. Quite an honour considering the quality of the competition! What really sets this place apart from all its competitors is not so much the quality of the rooms but the character and atmosphere in camp.

Built years ago in a design that was totally unique across Africa, Tongabezi is an old favourite due to its longstanding fresh approach to lodge design. They then continued to give our clients unbelievable stays - we even had a phrase in the office which described clients best trips as ‘Tongabezi moments’!
