PLANTATION LODGE
Ngorongoro Highlands
Plantation Lodge: Our ViewIn our view Plantation is the best of the coffee plantations in the Ngorongoro Highlands; and with its accessible location it is a great choice for those wanting to visit both the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park. Its main rival, Gibb’s Farm is certainly another great contender, but we would suggest that it is now becoming slightly too overused and on the A&K circuit for lunch breaks thus invading the privacy that a lodge like this deserves. All in all a very good spot to relax for a couple of days and make your base while taking in this spectacular region of Africa! One of our favourite lodges while on a Northern Circuit in the Ngorongoro Highlands, a solid lodge which is very relaxing and good value, for that reason we give it 4 paws. It is quiet and offers an intimate experience. Plantation Lodge: Fast Facts$700 per person per night (private safari)
Plantation Lodge: The DetailPlantation Lodge is located in Ngorongoro highlands just outside the village of Karatu roughly half way between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. It is an approximate 2.5 hour drive from Arusha, 1 hour drive to Manyara and 1 hour drive to the Ngorongoro crater rim. The lodge is set in the beautiful lush hills and is a very tranquil setting. The Lodge has the style of a colonial Africa home with 18 rooms individually styled spead out around the lush tropical garden or attached to the main lodge. Each room has its own verandah and is decorated with African arts with modern touches. The Plantation Lodge also offers exquisite meals with menu choices ranging from European specialties to exotic dishes prepared in the Swahili-kitchen. Only the freshest ingredients are used which are taken from the lodge’s own vegetable garden. Set amongst lush and verdant gardens it is also possible to relax by the pool and just watch the world go past! Plantation Lodge: Client Reviews
Plantation Lodge - Rooms were beautiful, staff were friendly and food was excellent. The pool provided a welcome and refreshing respite. M Goldsmith 2011 We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Plantation Lodge. Warm and friendly staff who anticipate your needs without hovering too much. Three hour walking safari (included) and night game drive were real treats (cats really come out at night and are more active) Very comfortable, roomy tents with good views, large terrace (birds and Dik Dik regularly scooted across). Enjoyed the outdoor shower heated by solar panels. One suggestion: possibly place a screen around the toilette (at corner of dressing area) for a little extra privacy. Loved having coffee and biscuits brought as a wake-up call each morning at all camps. Breakfast buffet and desserts were great (loved homemade cookies). Had two meals where meat was grissly, but barbecue on the last night was delicious. Good wines. Alex, our guide was wonderful, experienced, knowledgeable and a great sense of humor and did a terrific walking tour and night drive.Good practice of having executives/managers from office cover vacations of camp managers to stay current on how camps operate. Barbara, our covering manager was excellent. Safe in tent (though staff seemed very honest) and complementary laundry service was a convenience. Ngorongoro Highlands
This is an old 1930’s coffee plantation in the Ngorongoro Highlands. Gibbs Farm is a remarkable hideaway between the National Parks and conservation areas with a surprisingly English country garden.
