SELOUS SAFARI CAMP

Our honeymoon to Selous Safari Camp was absolutely incredible. The service, the camp, the staff, and the animals were just superb; we couldn't have been happier. From start to finish we loved every moment and felt so spoilt and cared for. Jenny the manager is amazing and has a wonderful team that are  friendly, caring and so knowledgeable. My husband and I both have the Safari bug now and we will definitely use Tanzania Odyssey to help advise us in the future as they offered such great & expert service and professional throughout. At sunset we watched a herd of elephants walking along the bank to drink water which was just magical. The following day we watched a pride of lions and the cubs playing and then drinking milk their mother which was amazing to experience. Our fabulous driver then followed a group of vultures to find them eating from a dead buffalo!!!!!! It was lovely as we saw something different everyday and the driver knew the answer to any animal or wildlife question we asked. It was an incredible experience; Selous Safari Camp is a fabulous and beautiful way to do a safari

On to Selous Safari Camp where we were upgraded to the private camp which delighted us.
In many ways the camp was equally as good as Jongomera and Janey was very helpful and again attention to detail and every attempt to satisfy our every need ran through our stay.  There was a greater variety of scenery and safari options here which  complimented Jongomera superbly.
Our highlights here were the flat tyre on the way back from the village after sunset and a broken jack resulting in a rescue mission, which in turn resulted in the sighting(and chase) of two leopards after dark on the way back! If that wasn't enough, the following day we found a pride of lions which had chased a leopard up a tree in competition for a kill!

Selous Safari Camp - this was our first safari experience and it was one to remember! We received a very warm welcome from Emile and all of the staff at Selous Safari Camp. A brief point on that – this camp uses mainly local people for its staff which is wonderful. It was nice that tourism benefitted the local area. The camp itself is split into two sections so it feels compact and “authentic”. The staff on the safari trips were also extremely knowledgeable. Each tent has ample space around it to give a sense of remoteness, safe in the knowledge that the staff are nearby! The tents, for want of a better word, are luxurious and are a very good size, with a nice shaded deck to sit outside. Not that we sat out there much – the lovely swimming pool area was more appealing for us in the bit of free time we had during the day between safaris. The bar area is also very comfortable and the food at the restaurant was excellent.
The safari itself was wonderful. Ok, it is a game reserve so most of the animals are more skittish than in the national parks. And there wasn’t an abundance of big cats or elephants close to the camp. But the diversity of the wildlife and types of safari made this a real experience. It is such a remote and huge location that it felt really “authentic”. We rarely saw any other jeeps on our drives so you got a real sense of just being there with the animals. Being able to choose between a game drive, a boat trip or a hike made the days feel more varied. Boat trips on the lake right outside the camp were amazing – enjoying a Tusker beer or a glass of wine just before sunset sitting in the middle of a beautiful lake surrounded by the wonderful scenery and wildlife is a real treat not to be missed. Good times.
I would highly recommend visiting this camp, however I would do so with the recommendation to also visit at least one other camp on your trip too. And make sure you’ve got a good zoom lens on your camera and pair of binoculars with you.

The Selous Safari Camp was brilliant and I cannot recommend the whole experience high enough. The fly camp was an experience not to be missed. The food and service was amazing and we just wished we had longer there, but I think this would have been impossible.

Selous Safari Camp was absolutely amazing - the people were so genuine, interesting and knowledgeable and totally looked after us camp was lovely, tents brilliant, outside shower was great - could watch giraffes and baboons whilst washing, what more could you want!
They planned everything so well - all the guides were so great and did everything they could to make the most of our trip/game/boat drives being on a lake has major advantages from the boat safari to all the hippos and stunning scenery Food was the best I have ever had - literally amazing and so nice that you don't get a menu Anne-Marie was so much fun we had lots of fun enjoying pre dinner drinks with her On our last night they set up a surprise private dinner for us which was so nice if a little scary
Foot safari was also very interesting and well worth the very early start, we learnt so much and they made a surprise lake side breakfast for us.
We've spoken to a few people who have also been on safari and in Tanzania and it seems that where we were was the best option as much quieter, didn't feel like you were in an animal amusement park and we also didn't get taken to any fake Masai tribes that quite a few other couples did whilst out on a game drive.

We stayed at Selous Safari Camp for 4 nights – the lodge was beautiful, rooms spectacular, service immaculate and the food was amazing (and I am a fussy eater – so that is high praise indeed!). They made you feel at home from the moment you arrived and the actual safaris were so exciting – jeep, boat and walking.

The Selous Safari Camp took us out of time and space into a beautiful, quiet and elegant location. We couldn't have wished for better in the accommodation, staff, food and locale. The animal viewing was superb just before the short rains which arrived pretty much the day we left. Every day it was a fascinating and well paced adventure. The flying in and out was a great part of the trip too. We were reluctant to leave. I'm so glad you recommended us to choose that camp because we felt that the staff personalized each day for us and were very knowledgeable as well as being flexible to our needs.  I'd go back in a flash!
