SELOUS SAFARI CAMP

Selous

Selous Safari Camp: Our View

Owned by the long-established and highly regarded Selous Safari Company, Selous Safari Camp is located in the north of the Selous Game Reserve, in Southern Tanzania.  The camp is located in one of the best areas for game in the whole park.  It operates in a non-pretentious and elegant style as a permanent tented camp, tucked among the palm trees on the banks of Lake Nzerakera.  We love this place due to its perfect blend of luxury and character and believe it to be the best tented camp in park.  It is also a great option for people who are trying to save a little bit more money against the likes of Beho Beho and Sand Rivers.  A great option for honeymooners to splash out for a couple of nights!

Undoubtedly the best tented lodge in the park and worthy of a 5 paw. We think this camp is utterly superb and all our client feedback seems to agree. Great resident game, excellent boating safaris and a flawless service make Selous Safari Camp one of our favourites here.

Selous Safari Camp: The Detail

Selous Safari Camp in located near the Siwandu area of the Selous Game Reserve in the best game area of the reserve where there is a network of lakes and rivers. Selous Safari Camp is a 45 minute flight from Dar es Salaam and the mainland coast.

This camp is spacious and stylishly designed for an atmospheric stay, with a shady swimming pool to complete its appeal.  Split into two, creating a more personal mood, means the size of the camp feels a lot smaller thus offering that extra touch of seclusionand thereby also providing the possibility for groups to have exclusive use, should they wish. The main areas of the lodges are raised for elevated dining view views onto the water.

The luxury tented accommodation is spread out among the trees with views onto the Lake in the back drop which is frequently visited by Elephants. The tents have en-suite bathrooms with outdoor showers and verandas at the front and rear of the tents.

Standards of guiding and wildlife expertise are hard to beat with many of the guides having spent all their years in the Selous Game Reserve.  Taking the opportunity to fly-camp under the stars with the experts is extremely worthwhile.  Typical days involve a morning and an afternoon game activity; on foot, by boat, or from an open sided vehicle, and for the anglers among you, a spot of fishing.  Not to mention that the twenty minute drive from the airstrip to the camp seems to always muster an exciting introduction!  As soon as you set down in the Selous the adventure begins...

Selous Safari Camp: Client Reviews

Dear Ed,

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday. Everything worked perfectly and all three Selous properties were excellent and provided great diversity. Jongomero was probably our favourite due to its remoteness and Molly and Noelle but we loved Selous and Ras Kutani as well. The trip was a perfect length, a day more or less at any of the places would not have been as good!

Many thanks for requesting an upgrade at Ras Kutani, we were absolutely thrilled to be in a beautiful suite, it made the last two days even more special.

In all three camps they spoke very warmly of you and Tanzanian Odyssey's professionalism so we certainly felt we had chosen the right company to go with.

Once again, many thanks.

With very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Next we visited Selous Safari Camp- again everything was excellent. Went on a walking safari and were charged by a herd of elephants (not really, there were only three!! but had increased to a herd by the time we told our story over dinner!!! )

Our honeymoon to Selous Safari Camp was absolutely incredible. The service, the camp, the staff, and the animals were just superb; we couldn't have been happier. From start to finish we loved every moment and felt so spoilt and cared for. Jenny the manager is amazing and has a wonderful team that are  friendly, caring and so knowledgeable. My husband and I both have the Safari bug now and we will definitely use Tanzania Odyssey to help advise us in the future as they offered such great & expert service and professional throughout. At sunset we watched a herd of elephants walking along the bank to drink water which was just magical. The following day we watched a pride of lions and the cubs playing and then drinking milk their mother which was amazing to experience. Our fabulous driver then followed a group of vultures to find them eating from a dead buffalo!!!!!! It was lovely as we saw something different everyday and the driver knew the answer to any animal or wildlife question we asked. It was an incredible experience; Selous Safari Camp is a fabulous and beautiful way to do a safari

We really like Beho Beho, and not just for the luxury! It combines all the elements that make the safari experience memorable, with beautiful views, great game and fantastic guides. In our view, it is easily the best lodge in the park and one of the top 3 in Africa!

Selous
The Selous Impala Camp is well regarded as offering excellent value for money and a great overall level of service and guiding. If you cannot stretch the budget to one of the more expensive lodges then this is definitely a good compromise in the Selous.

This camp is exceptional value, located in an incredibly game rich area of the Selous where you can boat, walk and game drive all straight from the camp. This camp is not trying to be something it's not- an excellent authentic no frills safari experience, we really recommend it!
