Kirurumu Serengeti Camp is a mobile tented camp that takes up three locations in the year - Ndutu, Seronera and Kogatende. It is a new offering from one of our favourite and most respected operators - Hoopoe. It offers great game viewing and a high level of accommodation at an unbeatable price. For Mara River crossings no other accomodation comes close in terms of value.
Kirurumu - The Details
Kirurumu can be found in Ndutu from December to March for calving season. It then closes for the rainy season of April and May before reopening in the north-western part of the central Serengeti where it can expect the migration as it moves northwards in June then again as it comes south in November. While the main camp runs in Seronera, a second camp is built in Kogatende from June to October to catch the Great Migration crossing the Mara River. This Northern camp is exactly the same as the main camp and offers unparralled value for money. Even without the migration, all locations offer top game viewing with the central Serengeti location particularly good because it is away from the busy hub of camps and lodges.
The camp is far better than you’d expect from a glance at the price. It has just seven tents, smaller than the mobile camp average of eight, each ensuite and decorated in tasteful safari style. Neither too basic nor over stylised, they are good tents that blend well with the environment. The main dining and mess areas continue this vibe - comfortable and homely, lending themselves to the feeling of being on an exciting safari with the right level of creature comforts.
Being better value than all of our mobiles means that you shouldn’t expect the same level of luxury as an Olakira or Alex Walker’s Serian but Kirurumu isn’t competing against these guys so a comparison in unfair. If you want great game viewing and would like the proper safari experience without blowing the budget then this is a great mobile camp to consider. If you're at all price concious in the North of the Serengeti then this is the one to go for.
