Wolwedans

The Wolwedans Collection is a group of lodges located in a private reserve 3 hours drive South of the Sossusvlei dunes. Home to the original Wolwedans Dune Lodge and Wolwedans Dune Camp, the collection recently built the stunning Boulders Camp and subsequently offers a range of accommodations to suit all budgets. Famous for its approach to sustainable tourism, Wolwedans is one of Namibia’s most impressive private reserves and a company whose ethos others should learn from. Seeing as it is not possible to visit the Sossusvlei Dunes from Wolwedans we often recommend combining Wolwedans with a couple of nights in Sossusvlei itself before retreating to the privacy the collection offers.

Wolwedans - The Details

Wolwedans nestles into the dunes and is set against a backdrop of extraordinary natural beauty. Located in the heart of NamibRand Nature Reserve, this portfolio of camps provides the perfect base from which to explore vast stretches of awe-inspiring and undisturbed nature.

Each camp is designed with guest’s individual needs at heart. You have a choice of the rustic, but unique comfort of the Dune Camp, the more elaborate Dunes Lodge and Mountain View Suite, the quietly secluded Private Camp or our latest gem, Boulders Camp, secretly tucked away amidst the grandeur of large granite rocks.

Wolwedans is more than a collection of camps - its ethos lies in setting an example in responsible tourism, the empowerment of its employees and its commitment to the conservation of NamibRand Nature Reserve. All structures are designed in such a way that they can, if needed, be dismantled easily. Within a few months the nature it resides on can restore itself and there will be no trace that it ever existed.

The Dunes Lodge is perched on top of a dune plateau, overlooking panoramic vistas in all directions. Building style is a combination of wooden structures and canvas blinds, opening up to the desert beyond. The lodge reflects the ambience of a tented camp, but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building. Each of the nine spacious chalets with en-suite bathrooms sports a private verandah, which connects you to vast stretches of untouched sand.

Situated 45 kilometres south of Wolwedans and hugged by massive granite rocks, Boulders Camp is the latest addition to the Wolwedans Collection. Sleeping a maximum of eight guests in four spacious tents, Boulders is undoubtedly the most exclusive camp at Wolwedans.

Situated in a quiet and idyllic valley, Private Camp caters for four guests exclusively. It is the perfect getaway for honeymooners or individuals seeking uncompromising privacy and solitude. The camp offers two spacious en-suite bedrooms, a ‘Sala’ where one can laze away siestas, various decks and the central lounge, combining a study, living room, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. Its open-plan design allows uninterrupted views of the surrounding nature.

Positioned on the edge of a 250-metre high dune, the Dune Camp sleeps a maximum of 12 guests in a totally unspoilt setting. Guests stay in comfortable tents, which are pitched on wooden platforms. A spacious deck, allowing for safe sleep-outs under the stars and a private bathroom make for a rather civilized camping experience. Whilst the lodge aims at accommodating those guests in need of relaxed comfort and space, the camp provides a more down-to-earth experience. Its rustic but unique atmosphere courts the young and more adventurous traveller.
