Shipwreck Lodge, Skeleton Coast

Namibia’s Skeleton Coast is a place quite like no other in the whole of Africa, and in all honestly, the world. There are not many other better places to base yourself in the eerie isolation of the sandy Namibian Skeleton Coast than in Natural Selection’s quirky and fabulous Shipwreck Lodge.
Although the Skeleton Coast is for those who crave the great outdoors, Shipwreck offers a luxurious and homely little slice of paradise in amidst this barron & harsh land. A honeymoon here would certainly be one to remember forever – isolated in the extremity of African wilderness but with the quirky and romantic luxuries which such a trip deserves. It is not just the romantic notion of isolation which attracts people to these strange lands, but also Shipwreck acts as a perfect base for activity lovers, wildlife fanatics and stargazers alike…

Shipwreck Lodge – The Details

Neatly set on the dunes of the arid Skeleton Coast, Shipwreck Lodge boasts glorious sweeping views of the desert below. The skeletal structure of the ‘shipwreck’ rooms really amps the feeling that you are completely out at sea in the African wilderness… Without any of the downsides of really being ‘shipwrecked!’ The luxury within the wooden walls acts as a welcoming embrace after an adventurous day out, and the location serves as an extraordinary setting to watch the sun go down over an icey drink.

The lodge is comprised of 10 rooms (8 doubles and 2 family rooms), but all rooms can be made into triples on request. They have all the mod cons including Wifi, charging facilities, a laundry service and works on an all-inclusive basis. They also accept children of all ages – for those families who like to do things a little differently…

Shipwreck Lodge – Activities

Activities can be enjoyed daily. You can go on game drives to find the extraordinary desert elephant, lion, baboon, hyena or giraffe inland. The Atlantic coast which starkly contrasts to the desert is home to huge colonies of seals and is a birder’s paradise, so make sure you bring your binos.

Sundowner trips are also included in your stay at Shipwreck, as well as walks on the beach, fishing, excursions to Clay Castles, the Hoanib River Delta and the Mowe Bay seal colony. You can also go on a trip to see some real shipwrecks...

Although Namibia is not thought to be a main African safari destination, the unique nature of the wildlife you do see in this unbelievably harsh climate is extraordinary to see. It is not just about the wildlife itself, but the whole atmosphere surrounding the which makes the excursions here so special.

Perfect for honeymooners, families or simply a solo traveller in search of wilderness; Shipwreck is a one of a kind option for those who want an African adventure to remember.
