Owner-run Kaya Mawa is ideal for a few nights of rest and relaxation and a chance to unwind after the early mornings of the Zambia safari routine. The service here is impeccable, they attend to your every need without over-doing it, so you’re left to enjoy yourselves in peace.
The cool freshwater lake offers a welcoming and refreshing retreat. You can spend your days lounging on the beach and being pampered in the in-house spa, or get as active as you like, biking across the island or canoeing on the lake. This small lodge is beautifully furnished with a truly authentic theme running through it; this is our top recommendation for lake accommodation and an ideal romantic getaway for honeymooners.
Lake Malawi offers a great beach extension to a spectacular Zambian safari, especially from the South Luangwa. The gateway is through Mfuwe in the South Luangwa where you can fly into Lilongwe (an hour’s flight), go through immigration, and continue from there to your destination. We highly recommend the stunning Kaya Mawa on Likoma Island – another hour’s flight on from Lilongwe.
