Much loved by everyone who stays here, Little Makalolo lies in one of Hwange’s most ecologically diverse areas, ensuring both variety and numbers of animals year round. There are a large number of waterholes attracting game from far and wide. With one waterhole conveniently positioned right in front of the camp, wildlife activity can be enjoyed from your breakfast table or from the camp’s log pile hide. Game drives, walks and cultural activities sometimes end at the “pizza stop” at Madison Pan, where a Star Bed is ready for your sleep out under the stars.
Little Makalolo - The Details
Situated in a private concession in the south-eastern section of Hwange National Park, the intimate and eclectic Little Makalolo is nestled in a shady treeline. It has six spacious tents (including a family unit) with both indoor and outdoor showers. These are connected to the main area by teak walkways, where a towering false mopane tree shades the dining and living area with views of the much-frequented waterhole. Lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, leopard, rhino, hyaena, giraffe, sable, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck and reedbuck are all found in this game rich concession.
Summer game viewing is excellent and can rival the best in Africa with wildebeest, zebra and eland found in abundance on the plains. In winter the waterholes are magnets for elephant, which sometimes come to drink in their hundreds.
