Ongava Game lodge is the largest of Wilderness Safaris lodges in Etosha and ultimately are least favourite. As much as we appreciate the quality of the operational side of this lodge we don’t see the point of spending the same amount here as at Ongava Tented Lodge but getting what we believe is a far less quality experience. In our view the only reason to stay here would be because clients are hesitant about staying in a tented camp! It is rare for us not to like a Wilderness Safaris lodge – they are after all the best operator in the whole of Southern Africa but as much as this lodge is quite good value, the experience at Ongava Tented right next door is far superior.
Situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in the privately owned Ongava Game Reserve (30,000 acres), Ongava Game Lodge is well-established and reliably well appointed. An ideal place from which to explore Etosha, Ongava Game Lodge has a superb vantage point overlooking a well-frequented watering point and the plains beyond.
The lodge provides 14 air-conditioned rock and thatch chalets, each with bathrooms en-suite and wooden decked verandas overlooking the plains. The central restaurant, bar and reception area are thathed, with great views of the water hole. There is also a shady swimming pool for post-safari or siesta refreshment!
Safari activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles into the Okaukuejo area of Etosha where animals such as Lion, Elephant, Cheetah, Gemsbok, Springbok, and Hartebeest can be seen at many of the water holes. In addition, guests can enjoy the hides and guided walks with armed guides on the private reserve. Ongava has resident White and Black Rhino, giving guests staying at Ongava the opportunity to see both species.
