Khayelitshe House is a unique place. Bordering Matobo National Park, this lodge is set between dramatic granite boulders, seemingly in its own little jungled sanctuary. It would be a brilliant place to rent out with the family – and it’s filled with endless exploration possibilities.

Khayelitshe House - The facts

This exclusive use villa can host six adults and three kids - or a maximum of eight adults - across several spacious rooms. But this isn’t a self-service villa: you will have a whole team of staff making your stay as comfortable as possible with a private chef, host and guide.

The four ensuite rooms have amazing views of the boulders, and the main area is elegant but not over the top with a tasteful earthy design to fit in with its wild surroundings. The pool sits out the front of the building and is a great place to cool off with a drink in hand after a dusty day exploring.

Here, adventure isn’t just done in 4x4s, but guests can enjoy hiking to Rhodes’ Grace, visits to Shami Ruins and discover ancient cave paintings. Of course, there are also safaris in the neighbouring park, which has an impressive population of rhino – not something many areas of Africa can still say.

This is pretty much the definition of seclusion, and its name directly translates to Home in the Rocks in the local language. It has a minimum two-guest policy and is priced from $3,005 per night for exclusive use.

There aren’t many private villa options in Africa that offer such seclusion, exclusivity, and scope for exploration as Khayelitshe House does for this price. It would be a very special place to head to for that big family holiday you’ve always dreamt of.
