Muchenje Safari Lodge

An old favourite of ours…and such a great value lodge.  Muchenje has the best views of any Chobe lodge and we love the fact that it is a privately-owned lodge located away from the crowds that Chobe National Park has become infamous for.  The lodge has got a great unpretentious safari atmosphere and is significantly more economical than the other good lodges elsewhere in Chobe.  Another bonus is that along with all the other activities (boating, game drives etc) you can also walk and do night drives. Muchenje is the only lodge in the park where this is possible - so a big thumbs up from us!

Muchenje Safari Lodge - The Details

Muchenje Safari Lodge is located on the central-northern border of Chobe National Park with Namibia, just outside the park, looking over a flood plain in the valley of the Chobe River.  You can access Muchenje by a 45 minute road transfer from Kasane, where there is an international airport.

The dining room is made up of long tables made from railway sleepers which creates a very relaxed atmosphere.  Muchenje has stunning panoramic views of the Chobe flood plains and overlooks its own water-hole, regularly frequented by all species of game.  Short walks are often conducted to the water hole to check out animal tracks around it and see what has been lurking.  In addition there is a swimming pool built into the escarpment.

Brilliantly run, Muchenje Safari Lodge accommodates just 20 guests. Ten thatched en-suite chalets built out of stone each have their own unique view out over the Chobe River.  Although not vast, the rooms are very private and offer a great atmosphere for  families or honeymooners.

Muchenje’s forte is its unique game experience, the most diverse offered in Chobe; game drives depart early or late morning, afternoon and full day complete with hampers for those who want to spend all day in the bush. Being outside the park is what sets Muchenje apart from the rest. Game viewing by boat on the Chobe river and walking safaris on the border of the park. Night drives go out every night after dinner and culture visits to traditional homes at a nearby village offer a glimpse of the local culture.
