SHOMPOLE
Shompole
Shompole: Our ViewSince Shompole’s conception, it has really been leading the way in how to organise and successfully run a community lodge. Superbly designed with the elements of nature such as water featuring very prominently in the entire design, the lodge has a wonderfully relaxed and secluded air to it. Like many of the lodges and camps in Kenya, it does not necessarily excel at being an out and out game lodge but, with fantastic views, a vast range of activities and community experiences on offer and some of the most beautiful rooms you will ever see, it is the perfect accompaniment to a few days in the Mara. You don't come to Shompole for the game, it is more about the open luxury living in the wilderness. This lodge will not suit all tastes and is certainly not a big game viewing environment, but for clients wanting relaxation and luxury there is arguably nowhere better. Shompole: The DetailSituated on the side of the Nguruman escarpment, overlooking the stunning expanse of the Great Rift Valley, the lodge is positioned ideally to make the most of both an incredible view and the cool breeze. Constructed using naturally occurring white quartz stone, pale thatch and fig-wood, and using water as a prime feature. Each tented room provides a very spacious, shady oasis in this arid environment. With privacy, comfort and relaxation in mind, each room has its own cool-pool and informal sitting areas, a bathroom with a view and a specially designed tent that includes huge windows and a high-canopied roof. The variety of landscape seen at Shompole allows for a great range of activities from early morning and evening walks, river trips, game drives and night drives, sundowner visits to Lake Natron to see the flamingos, picnics and nights spent out in the rustic romantic Sidai Bush Camp. In addition, guests can take the opportunity of mixing and finding out more about the Maasai people, visit the local market and villages and take part in any festivities or celebrations that might be taking place. Activities are unscheduled and organised according to the preferences of our guests where possible. Guests will also have ample time to relax and enjoy the facilities of the camp itself. Located over to the west of Amboseli NP, Tortilis is located in one of the best areas, away from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to have easy access to the park.
Amboseli
Similar to its sister camps in the Mara, Amboseli Porini Camp has kept to the basics of safari and is a real find in what is a growingly expensive marketplace. With simple, but clean and tidy tents, all featuring fully flush loos and spacious dressing and sleeping areas, the accommodation is comfortable.
Chyulu Hills
Set in the verdant Chyulu Hills, to the west of Tsavo, Ol Donya Wuas has long featured in Kenyan safari itineraries as a stunning location and lodge. However, as with plenty of Kenyan lodges they started to trade on their name rather than the overall experience provided and so really dropped off the map for us.
