KIRAWIRA LODGE

Serengeti, Western Corridor

Kirawira Lodge: Our View

As far as tented camps go, Kirawira is slightly larger than most, but it also offers a higher level of opulence than its peers in that large category. Set in the Western corridor region of the Serengeti, all of the tents have spectacular views out over the plains, particularly in June and July when the Migration makes its way past.

Kirawira is a stunning lodge. No doubt about it, but for the same price or even less, you can get a more suitably located smaller and more intimate camp. Sadly it gets 3 paws.

Kirawira Lodge: The Detail

This is an extraordinarily fine permanent tented camp, elegantly furnished throughout in the old 1920s safari style, with Victorian antiques (or reproductions), including studded leather folding wardrobes and polished brass taps and trimmings.

The lavishly tented dining area at Kirawira is laid out across dark polished teak floorboards covered with rich woven rugs and surrounded by fine writing desks and 1920s safari memorabilia. Guests enjoy a la carte meals served on a fine array of china and silver. Its hilltop position gives fabulous views across mile upon mile of the Serengeti bush all around.

The Serena connection is only really apparent at the swimming pool, for which they excel in providing individual and inviting designs, with water features and private enclaves with phenomenal views that really make the most of the surroundings.

Kirawira has captured a nostalgic, romantic atmosphere, most enjoyable as the sun sets and its many lamps twinkle to life in the African night. The camp is landscaped throughout to provide easy pathways between the 25 tents, even in the dark.

Faru Faru has raised the standards for supremely fine safari accommodation in Africa; so much so that we have had to add another level to our paw ratings!  Arguably the camp is over-luxurious, but for those of us who like a bit of extra finesse, it earns our five paw rating with aplomb.

Kleins is one of our favourite Serengeti camps, as it offers a wide range of safari experiences, including night drives and walking safaris, with superb guides.

Serengeti, Western Corridor

Grumeti is a fabulous, beautifully appointed camp in the Western Serengeti, located on the Grumeti River, one of the crossing points of the annual Great Migration. Safaris in this part of the Serengeti can be simply stunning.
