Mwiba Lodge is a Singita-level permanent lodge in a private reserve to the south of the Serengeti. The views are beautiful and the design is immaculate. It only opened in 2014 but it already competes with the best of the best.
Mwiba Lodge - The Details
Mwiba sits above a picturesque gorge in an enormous private reserve to the south of the Serengeti. As the Serengeti becomes increasingly busy, the value of privacy like this cannot be overstated. You wont see another vehicle and you can try both walking safaris and night drives, not possible within the parks boundaries. Outside migration season game is a little light but the incredible location, set amongst enormous boulders perched above a rocky gorge, makes it worth a visit any time.
The eight tented rooms are beautifully designed with neutral safari colours and classic furnishings. Its easy to over style lodges at the top of the price scale but Mwiba have managed to produce a feeling of classic luxury. Each room has a huge set of glass windowed doors, opening onto a terrace with an amazing view. The lodge has clearly been designed with romance in mind. You won’t find a better view from many bathtubs in Africa!
The tone continues into the public areas, where a huge Makuti roof covers an impressive lounge area set into the rock. In front and below is the pool area with a well-sized infinity pool looking out across the tree-line. Its a great place from which to enjoy a sundowner. Drinks
As alluded to, the area is not game-rich. Its quite dense and wooded although the wide open plains you associate with the Serengeti are only a short drive away. When the migration comes down to the area from roughly mid-December to the end of March, Mwiba is without doubt the most luxurious lodge from which to see it. The area is also known for having a high concentration of leopards.
This is a top five paw lodge.
