KLEINS CAMP

Serengeti, North

Kleins Camp: Our View

Kleins is one of our favourite Serengeti camps, as it offers a wide range of safari experiences, including night drives and walking safaris, with superb guides.  Fabulously positioned half way up a valley, the camp overlooks the valley floor which fills with the migrating herds when they come back in October and early November.  Even when the migration isn’t around, safaris at Kleins are simply fantastic due to it being a private concession with excellent resident game and walking and night drives options.

Kleins gets our 5 paw rating due to the sheer quality of this camp, the guiding and the game-viewing. Located outside the reserve, but with good resident game, the lodge also offers walking and night driving.

Kleins Camp: The Detail

Located in the Northern parts of the Loliondo Concession to the East of the Serengeti National Park in Northern Tanzania, Kleins Camp is located in the private Kleins Reserve which borders the Serengeti National Park itself. The lodge is one of only a few Serengeti camps that are not tented camps. Kleins is approximately a two hour flight from Arusha and has its own private airstrip which is within the reserve, 30 minutes drive from camp. Clients can also use Lobo airstrip within the Serengeti if they please.

Kleins Camp has eight stone and thatch rooms or ‘rondavels’ each looking out over the valley floor and hills beyond. The main area consists of two main circular buildings – the dining room and the communal lounge and bar area, where the lodges best views are from. There is also a small shop and reception area as well as a fairly small swimming pool.

The rooms are of a very high standard and come complete with four poster beds as well as en suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flush toilets. Each room has an outside porch area with a couple of chairs and a table to have breakfast and enjoy some of the areas finest views. They are some of the most beautiful rooms in Northern Tanzania.

Although Kleins is not officially a Serengeti camp, due to its location outside the park, the Kleins reserve does border the Serengeti, and their vehicles will take clients into the Serengeti if they like. The advantage of being located outside the park means you can do walking and night safari.

Kleins offers standard daytime game drives at day and night as well as some superb walking safari up on to the hills beyond the lodge, where views reach all the way across the entire Serengeti.

We really like Beho Beho, and not just for the luxury! It combines all the elements that make the safari experience memorable, with beautiful views, great game and fantastic guides. In our view, it is easily the best lodge in the park and one of the top 3 in Africa!

Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is spectacular, opulent, rich and wonderfully quirky. With an unparalelled location on the Crater rim, this flagship &Beyond property sets out to blur the boundaries between reality and dream.
Serengeti, Western Corridor
Faru Faru has raised the standards for supremely fine safari accommodation in Africa; so much so that we have had to add another level to our paw ratings!  Arguably the camp is over-luxurious, but for those of us who like a bit of extra finesse, it earns our five paw rating with aplomb.
