NOMAD LAMAI SERENGETI

Northern Serengeti

Nomad Lamai Serengeti: Our View

Nomad Tanzania is one of our favourite operators to use and they always perform to an expected level and in most cases exceed expectations. There is no doubt that Lamai Serengeti will be THE camp to go to in the Northern Serengeti. It is an unrivalled position on the Kogakuria Kopje looking out over the Lamai Wedge. This area is world class from June to October for the best migration viewings and will maximise your chances of catching river crossings.

We give Nomad Lamai 4 paws. It will certainly be worthy of a 5 paw rating given that it is owned and run by Nomad Tanzania, one of the best companies out there. However, we reckon it will need a season to find its feet, hence the initial 4 paws.

Nomad Lamai Serengeti: The Detail

At Lamai Serengeti there are just 12 rooms in all.  These are split between two entirely separate lodges, the Main Lodge of 8 rooms and our smaller Private Lodge of 4 rooms.

Each site has been carefully thought out. Firstly and most importantly, with the elements in mind, to take maximum advantage of the view, the sun, the wind and even the rain, welcome when it comes.

This involved much sitting in quiet and careful contemplation, with binoculars, compass and sundowner in hand. But also, and perhaps of even greater importance, each site is designed such that to the casual eye you won't see that there is anything there.
The rooms - a clever blend of canvas, plaster and natural poles - have given the 'camp designers' much debate, thought, and a multitude of headaches. The brief was simple: to become the guardian of this kopje, they needed to preserve all the things about it that has made it iconic.
