NSOLO
South Luangwa
Nsolo: Our ViewA couple of years ago, Nsolo burnt down and had to be rebuilt. As a result, Norman Carr Safari’s moved the location down to the river bed and have turned Nsolo into a seriously good bush camp. The guiding is exceptional and character in camp tangible; one of our absolute favourites in the Luangwa. A truly stunning little camp. With completely open fronts Nsolo is certainly for the adventurous, but for clients looking for that style of accommodation this camp is an absolute cracker. Worthy of our rare 5 paw grade Nsolo: Fast Facts$505 per person per night (high season)
Nsolo: The DetailNsolo looks over the dry Luwi River, downstream from Luwi bush camp and is one of Norman Carr’s two walking camps. The camp consists of only 4 rooms, all raised up on to wooden platforms a couple of metres above the bush. Typical of the Luangwa bush camps, Nsolo has open fronted rooms and a real sense of adventure. Sited by Norman Carr in 1987 Nsolo Bush Camp is situated on a bend in the Luwi sand river that runs through the heart of the South Luangwa National Park. Accommodation consists of four individually designed chalets each on raised wooden decks with high thatched roofs and private verandahs. The rooms are very spacious with the stylish furnishings that one would expect from one of Zambia's luxury walking safari camps. As with most bush camps the bathrooms have no roofs and are set under the shade of the trees above. The wildlife frequents a waterhole in the dry river-bed however Shaddy, the Camp Manager and guide, has been studying the wildlife and conducting walking safaris from this camp for over 10 years. Local knowledge of the surrounding area is exceptional. As with Norman Carr’s other walking camp, Luwi, Nsolo is one of the South Luangwa's more remote, luxury walking safari camps. There is only a limited network of roads in this area and as a result most of the game viewing activities are centered on walking safaris although short night drives are usually offered as well. Although the whole idea of the bush camp is to be in the bush, away from all luxurious etc. the fact is that there is a market that doesn’t want to loose the luxury! Mchenja caters for this market and does it damn well!

What a truly exceptional camp! Tafika is one of the remaining owner run camps in Africa with John and Carol ever present. The result is a camp that genuinely cares for each and every one of its guests.

Views, views and more views – the setting at Kakuli is spectacular. The tents are fully enclosed and so overall, this camp is not as rustic as the sister camps Luwi or Nsolo. However Kakuli offers a great bush experience for those who want to feel a little more ‘secure’ – this is yet again a fantastic camp from Norman Carr.
