Kakuli Bush Camp

Views, views and more views – the setting at Kakuli is spectacular. The tents are fully enclosed and so overall, this camp is not as rustic as the sister camps Luwi or Nsolo. However Kakuli offers a great bush experience for those who want to feel a little more ‘secure’ – this is yet again a fantastic camp from Norman Carr Safaris.

Kakuli - The Details

Kakuli, meaning “old buffalo bull” - the nickname Norman Carr was affectionately given, is a tented camp further along the walking trail from Nsolo. Set with views of the Luwi and Luangwa Rivers' confluence, Kakuli has one of the most spectacular settings of all of Luangwa’s camps (as well as having excellent opportunities to find prime sunset spots).

The focal point of the camp is the bar, dining and lounge area with an outlook giving you what we can best described as that 'top-of-the-world' feeling. The manager and guide, Aubrey Njobvu, has been here for years and you can see why he doesn't want to leave!

The main areas are constructed of reed and thatch yet the rooms are traditional safari tents that all have thatched roofs and en suite bathrooms made from reed walls. These bathrooms are enclosed to survive the green season when Kakuli is reopened. The camp is generously spread out and on first impression seems much larger than it actually is; overall a stunning camp.

Kakuli is the only Norman Carr Safaris bushcamp that re-opens in mid-January until the beginning of April for 'Rivers and Rainbows' - at this magic time of year you can experience boating and walking safaris from Kakuli, and the birdlife is unbeatable.
