Although Sanctuary Retreats are renowned for slightly over the top camps and lodges, Puku Ridge is a proper safari camp in a seriously reliable park. The South Luangwa is known for its small, wild and slightly rough-round-the-edges camps; Puku Ridge is possibly a bit too neat, and therefore lacking in character for us, but it's very comfortable and its game location plays a big role in making this a good quality 4 paw camp.
Puku Ridge Camp - The Details
Puku Ridge Camp is situated in a remote wildlife rich area in the South Luangwa National Park. Named after the elusive Puku antelope that inhabits the Kakumbi Dambo (floodplain), which the camp overlooks, Puku Ridge Camp is built on a hillside, providing stunning vistas of the floodplain and the wildlife that frequents it.
Puku Ridge is small and intimate and has been constructed to blend into the local surroundings. The camp offers six luxury oversized tents with a wrap around view of the floodplains. Each of the comfortably furnished tents boasts ensuite facilities which provides the option of taking a shower with the sun on your shoulders. All tents feature an indoor and outdoor shower, bath tub, three-quarter or king size beds, mosquito nets, private deck, ceiling fan and hairdryer. Tea /coffee is brought to the rooms each morning.
This is an excellent area for leopards, amongst all the rest. There is the option of two game activities per day. The emphasis in this area is the wonderful opportunities for walking safaris and night drives. You can end you day with dinner under the stars in the main area, or enjoy your meal on the privacy of your deck.
