Sindabezi is a five roomed private island lodge in the centre of the Zambezi River. Owned by Ben Parker, the owner of Tongabezi, this is an old favourite in the office and a great lodge for the client wanting something close to a bush camp in Livingstone. Brilliant for groups wanting to be completely shut off from the rest of the world, but still accessible to getting the best out of the area.
Zambia’s Sindabezi island Lodge is unique being the only island camp on the Upper Zambezi River in the Victoria Falls area. Located 3 km downstream from Tongabezi Lodge (towards Victoria Falls), the lodge has magnificent views overlooking other islands and the nearby flood plain of the Zambezi National Park. It is a beautiful small private island that offers some of the most unique accommodation in the area.
Sindabezi is a tiny private island offering the best wildlife experience in the entire Victoria Falls area. The birdlife is outstanding and game is often seen around the island with a number of hippos resident to the waters surrounding Sindabezi. The open-sided cottages are built from local timber, reed and thatch, with spectacular private views over the Zambezi.
All chalets have hot and cold running water, free standing baths run and bubbled for you on demand and flush loos with views. The island is fully staffed and a qualified guide hosts guests and is available to take them on boat trips or canoeing. They have recently installed warm solar lighting, and luckily this has not tampered with the romantic ambiance of the island.
The lodge also has a wealth of different activities on offer, all included in the price. Canoeing, island lunches, floating river meals, visits to the Mukuni Park, sunrise and sunset boating, visits to the local villages, guided bush walks, museum tours, fishing trips on the Zambezi and guided tours of Livingstone and Victoria Falls itself. It is worth noting however that getting to Livingstone and Victoria falls can prove rather tricky, involving a boat trip back up to Tongabezi (3km) followed by a 20 minute drive into town - it is of course very doable, we just recommend you allocate a day to do everything you want to in town and don't arrive into Livingstone on a late flight expecting to get to the island by boat in the dark!
Activities not included in the price can be organised for you with the Sindabezi team on arrival, it's a good idea to have three nights in Livingstone to make sure you have at least two whole days to get the most out everything on offer in Livingstone.
