Chyulu Hills

The Chyulu Hills National Park is effectively an extension of Western Tsavo. The area is wild and remote with very few visitors and few Masai villages in the area. With the backdrop of the Chyulu Hills and views out towards Kilimanjaro, the wilderness on display at Chyulu is infectious and although we do not regard Chyulu as a big game destination of any kind, the days you spend here, on foot, in vehicles or on horseback are remarkably rewarding. It is one of the rare parks in Kenya that safari enthusiasts would wholeheartedly approve of!
Chyulu has a sparse population of game but lion, giraffe, zebra and elephant roam undisturbed throughout the long mountain range that makes up the actual Chyulu hills. It is a wilderness where one can spend days without seeing a sole and that is its charm; you will have Chyulu to yourself.

Chyulu is regarded as a location for Africa lovers who have already had close encounters with big game. It is a location for people who want to get away from Kenya’s busier parts and would work well as part of an itinerary that included either the Mara, Amboseli or Lewa as the Big Game region.

Chyulu Hills: Accommodation choices

Chyulu only has two accommodations, both of which epitomise the spirit of the park. Richard Bonham’s Ol Donyo Wuas is a stunning property nestled at the foothills of the Chyulu Hills, overlooking a watering hole that is often frequented by elephant it guarantees big game viewing. Campi Ya Kanzi is a more economical option that caters more to an Italian market.
